Finally decided to stay L28 but questions..

After pondering the costs of a GN and 350 I have decided for the time being to stay with my L28 N/A and maybe switch it over to a turbo setup. But I have some questions that need answering.

1. What HP/Torque gains would I get from a 3.0 buildup or 3.1 stroker buildup?

2. What all would I need to change it over to a turbo setup with a good turbo that will provide me with decent acceleration and lots of takeoff power?

3. Would injectors/coil/ignition and all that would this stuff help at all or not?

I would like to know which turbo would be best to use and I wish when finished to be able to pull a 1/4 mile in 12's on pump gas. And 0-60 would like it to be under 5 or maybe 4's...

I finally did decide to go with this setup after lots of debating over the 3.8 GN and a 350 just due to the pain of switching over and the costs so I would love it if you guys could help me out.. I have done lots of searching on all the zcar sites and have not come up with anything that completely answers my questions.. I would be willing to spend money, just need some advice on how to get it up to 12 second 1/4 miles and 4 or 5 's on the 0-60 times.. I do have the CenterForce I clutch already and thats about all I have done with it so far. Thanks!!!

Anywhere from 180 to 340 hp normally aspirated.

You need to make the turbo/NA decision now before you start building the engine. The NA path requires different pistons then the turbo path.

Yes, all will help.

But first, how much money do you have to spend and how much money are you willing to spend on chassis and suspension upgrades? Going fast is much more then just horsepower. I suggest you spend a couple months doing more research before making any decisions.

Up to about 250hp the costs of a NA and a turbo engine are about equal. You're looking at basic engine rebuild/preparation costs that build a solid foundation for future horsepower gains. Above 250hp the turbo route tends to be cheaper and will ultimately result in more horsepower (up to 500hp) then the NA route (about 340hp).

I am looking at spending no more than $2500 on the engine for right now... Suspension will be another issue but for the engine, $2500 is tops for me at the moment. I would love to go turbo but don't know how much it would cost me all together with everything like I said I would like to be pulling 12's

With the weight of your car, I think your best bet of getting there without an $$$ NA engine, is to get a turbo engine swapped in your car. Thanks to a local guy I picked up a turbo car for $150, not everyone will get deals like that but honestly with a 2800 pound or so car, its going to take some power to get into the 12s.

The big numbers like 340 HP being quoted for an NA car, are high revving rebuilt, high compression race gas setups. I believe that one could get close to 300 HP or so on pump gas, but I haven't seen more than 287, and even that in a little cube engine is going to be peaky requiring a good gearset out back, and dont expect gas mileage to be delicious with a big cammed engine either.

I was just about set on a V8, but for several reasons went back to the Turbo idea, and here I am.

Also, are you looking for 12s on street tires or slicks? Thats going to make a difference as well.

Given what you want and what you have to spend, I'd say your best bet is to go turbo. Plenty of room to upgrade later, but you should be able to get close to the 12's without a ton of modifications. (or $$$)

I would budget $1000 for the engine swap, and spend the other $1500 you have towards upgrading suspension, brakes, tires, etc, to handle the extra power.
