I have a 350 (w/brodix alum. angle plug heads) in my 83 ZXT.

BIG problems getting any exhaust headers to a) clear the plugs and B) clear the steering shaft.

I found a couple of instances where some of you put in "U joints" in the steering shafts? Can somebody give me some details on how to do that? Or pictures (using the "picture is worth a thousand words principle").

On the headers, the ones I have would probably work if I could get them bent out about 1/2 of an inch? Anybody ever done that, or will that cause other problems.

w/ MUCH appreciation.

You can probably make a quick job of it by marking the offending pipe and taking a ball peen hammer to it along the line the shaft goes. This will serve to qualify you as a bonified shadetree mechanic.

Ah ha!

Und zo! you vant to uze ze spacer! .....Well, this more sophisticated than I supposed you were ready for.

You will need the services of a milling machine but that is the way to do it alright.

The previous two posts give solutions for Z headers, but the clearance issue is different on the ZX, which the orginator of this post has.

280zxt:

I have an 83ZX/350/SBC with "D" Port angle plug heads with Hedman Tight Tubes. The two rear tubes had to be removed from the flange and rerouted around my Power Rack& Pinion shaft. Works great! I sent it back to Heddman and they re-ceramic coated it for $50. as I remember. Good luck.
