Guest Anonymous
I finally have basically everything ready to put my engine in the car now, except one thing..... the harmonic balancer. I have a '95 LT1 out of a Z28, because I wanted to keep the A/C working I needed to relocate everything to the Corvette mounting position. I got the Corvette bracket, mounted everything and the balancer doesn't come out far enough to line up the relocated accessories. It lacks about 3/4 " to line up right. Chevy Dealership wants $400.00++ for the corvette balancer. I did research and found out the balancer is different than the Z's, the hub they mount to is the same for all LT1's. I can buy reman. balancers for the Z motor for $60-70.00, but really don't want to spend 400.00 on one. I have checked the usuals; local parts stores, summit, jegs, internet suppliers, junkyards, but just cannot find anything under the 400.00 mark. If I have to spend that much then I would spend it on a performance balancer. If anyone has ran into this problem, please help! thanks, Charlie
Tim240z
Try JD Corvettes here in CA. (562) 804-5205
80LS1T
You can get one from Flatlander Racing like I did. Its a PRO LINE SFI approved balancer for the LT1's. Mine is for a camaro though. You can get one for a Corvette for $189. They are very nice in my opinion. I havn't started my engine yet though. On the Camaro balancer it also eliminates that hub for the balancer. It is just made with it right on the balancer instead. All you have to do is pull the balancer and hub, put a key in the crank and then put on the new balancer! I am not sure if it is the same for the Corvette balancer though. Here's the link... http://www.flatlanderracing.com/index.html Just look under balancers/dampers and then PRO Line Here's the part # BAL-1-20 Chevy Corvette LT1/LT4 engine. zgeezer
Did all your Z/28 accessories bolt directly onto the corvette bracket? I have a '96 LT1 out of a Caprice and would like to relocate all l my accessories to the driver's side using the Corvette bracket. However, I've been told by various parts house jockies that the Caprice a/c, alt, and p/s will not bolt to the 'Vette bracket. Did you have any problems? gw
Guest Anonymous
No not all the accessories are the same. The A/C compressor, PS pump are different. I got a freebie A/C comp. off a vette and I'm not going to use P/S. The Alternator may be different, not sure, I am going to use my Camaro one. The valve cover on the Pass. side has a notch in it that gave room for the back of the Alt housing. I am just going to switch the valve covers around so the one with the notch in it will be on the driver's side. That should give me the proper clearance. I will check with those vendors and see what they have. I really don't want to have to machine the crank for a keyway to use a "older" style one piece balancer. The engine is ready to go in now, except for the holdup on the balancer. Thanks for the suggestions everybody, any other possible sources, please let me know. thanks again, Charlie
