Guest Zed Nugent Posted April 16, 2003 Share Posted April 16, 2003 I just started looking for an LT1/T56 combo and have no idea of what they are going for , and I found this for $2700.00 that a good deal ? 1997 LT1 engine and T56 six speed transmission with 83,083 miles that will be removed from a 1997 Z28 camaro. Engine has been cranked and runs excellent. Included will be all accessories ( ac compressor, alternator, ps pump, starter, MAF sensor, exhaust manifolds, computer, engine wiring harness and clutch master cylinder ). You have the option to have the computer reprogrammed for an additional $250.The computer can be reprogrammed with the VATS (vehicle anti-theft system) deleted and unwanted emission items can also be deleted. Guest Your Car is Slow Posted April 17, 2003 Share Posted April 17, 2003 eh..its not an amazing deal...but its not terrible. a 97 LT1 can fetch anywhere from 500 - 1000 dollars (this is including the harness and computer. Mudge Posted April 17, 2003 Share Posted April 17, 2003 $2700 is getting up there in price. Anything under 2 grand is a damn good deal, but $2000 or so is completely doable. As for VATS, I'd do it for you for free (cost of shipping for the computer) oops, except I see thats an OBD II computer which I dont have gear for. Guest Zed Nugent Posted April 17, 2003 Share Posted April 17, 2003 This was in South Carolina , and Im near Cincinnati, not that far but I have no Idea what shipping would be , between $200-$400 is my guess, I passed it up, I get cold chills thinking about dropping $2700 on an engine and not see it run for myself. You guys know of a trustworthy supplier for a 95/96 LT1-T56 complete setup? I understand you can disable VATS with Resistor (of correct resistance as the key) ,I'll have to look in the JTR book I think I saw it there, but I'll have to get a reprogram anyway so..... Nice to have that piece of mind. Most of the dismantllers will offer a warranty and guarantee running conditions. You'll pay a little more, but maybe it's worth it to you. They look to be a major yard and will obviously sell off the lot if desired. Get on ebay, search on LT1 and see what is offered. You can then click on similar items , since ebay keeps a record of what past items have gone for. Dan Juday Posted April 21, 2003 Share Posted April 21, 2003 Don't know what others have said about GM Sport Salvage. Here is my story. Bought my WC T5 from them when I couldn't find it anywhere else. Their price was comparable to other yards I trust. Included bellhousing, slave, master and pedal assembly (which I passed on since the parts don't work on a Z), flywheel and all clutch parts. Basicly a complete swap deal. After I got it home (two hour drive) I noticed the slave cylinder was cracked. I called back the next day and told them. They said they would grab one off another car and send it up no charge. Two days later they called back to say they didn't have one right now but they expected some more T5 cars in by the end of the week. They asked if I could wait till then or if I needed it now. I told them that I could wait since it was unlikely I would have everything ready to go together by the weekend. The next day a brand new slave came in the mail shipped next-day from a Chevy dealer near the yard. When I called back to thank them they said it was more important to them that I was happy then if it cost them a few bucks for a new part.
