eh..its not an amazing deal...but its not terrible.

a 97 LT1 can fetch anywhere from 500 - 1000 dollars (this is including the harness and computer.

Ive yet to see a T56 sell for less than 1000.

$2700 is getting up there in price. Anything under 2 grand is a damn good deal, but $2000 or so is completely doable.

As for VATS, I'd do it for you for free (cost of shipping for the computer) oops, except I see thats an OBD II computer which I dont have gear for.

This was in South Carolina , and Im near Cincinnati, not that far but I have no Idea what shipping would be , between $200-$400 is my guess,

I passed it up, I get cold chills thinking about dropping $2700 on an engine and not see it run for myself.

You guys know of a trustworthy supplier for a 95/96 LT1-T56 complete setup?

I understand you can disable VATS with Resistor (of correct resistance as the key) ,I'll have to look in the JTR book I think I saw it there, but I'll have to get a reprogram anyway so.....

Keep an eye on the local classifieds. You may find a wrecked car that someone is parting out. Before I pulled my engine I ran it. Nice to have that piece of mind. Most of the dismantllers will offer a warranty and guarantee running conditions. You'll pay a little more, but maybe it's worth it to you.

Here are a couple of places:

There is a place in Bristol PA that sells a ton of LT1/T56 combos on ebay yet have a lot of positive feedback. They look to be a major yard and will obviously sell off the lot if desired. Here is just one sample link:

I have no personal experience with this yard, but it would seem to me anyone who does this much buisness and still maintains happy customers must be doing something right.

ebay is an excellent resource to determine pricing. Get on ebay, search on LT1 and see what is offered. You can then click on similar items , since ebay keeps a record of what past items have gone for.

I have heard good things about the place in Bristol PA that was mentioned above. I believe there actual name is Contemporary Corvette. Car Craft magazine did some kind of a swap a year or three ago and bought the engine and tranny from them.

Don't know what others have said about GM Sport Salvage. Here is my story.

Bought my WC T5 from them when I couldn't find it anywhere else. Their price was comparable to other yards I trust. Included bellhousing, slave, master and pedal assembly (which I passed on since the parts don't work on a Z), flywheel and all clutch parts. Basicly a complete swap deal. After I got it home (two hour drive) I noticed the slave cylinder was cracked. I called back the next day and told them. They said they would grab one off another car and send it up no charge. Two days later they called back to say they didn't have one right now but they expected some more T5 cars in by the end of the week. They asked if I could wait till then or if I needed it now. I told them that I could wait since it was unlikely I would have everything ready to go together by the weekend. The next day a brand new slave came in the mail shipped next-day from a Chevy dealer near the yard. When I called back to thank them they said it was more important to them that I was happy then if it cost them a few bucks for a new part.

I used the cracked one as a trainer when modifing it for the swap.

Can't speak for others but I was happy.
