Guest z1 performance
Hey all - quick question. I have been running an electric fan in the Z for quite some time. We previously had it setup on an aux switch, but that is a bit "rigged" so I would like to link it to an temp. referenced switch. Has anyone done this yet? I have seen the switches/controllers on the JDM site, but honestly, they are not as elegant as I'd like. I was figuring on having the switch run to a relay, which would trigger the fan on and off depending on the switch used. problem is, I have no idea which car uses a switch with the proper on/off temp (I use a 180 t stat, so I am figuring on at 195-200, off at 185) Any info would be appreciated! slownrusty
I am running twin slimline electric Flex-A-Lite fans on my '83 ZXT and I bought their adjustable thermostat control box with a manual cab overide toggle switch. The Flex-A-Lite theromostat kit has the copper thermocouple that you place in the top rad hose. Hope that helps. Regards - Yasin
Lockjaw
I have a single 16 inch fan, and i use one of those dumb looking controllers that you can get at autozone, and it is all wired up thru a relay. It works good, but isn't the most pretty thing. There was some sort of switch that you could have put in the radiator, and it would trigger the fan at a preset temp. I would think that would be the cleanest way to go. Good luck.
Guest z1 performance
Yeah, I definately do not want the tube that goes intot he top of the radiator, nor do I want an auxiliary control box - with all the gauges in my car now, plus the boost controller and stereo, last thing I need is another electronic bit in the interior! I was thinking about this today - the TECII I use has its own temp sensor that it uses - I wonder if I could wire it up to the fan via a relay through the GPO (general purpose output)? I think I'll be calling Electromotive in the AM - that would surely be the cleanest route. Adam
yo2001
I think the TEC II has a E-fan power lead to turn the fan on and off. That'll be nice.
Guest z1 performance
yep - found today that the GPO has a provision for the fan. Sorry if I am out of the loop with this one guys - its been awhile since I played with the TEC II (we have been doing TEC III's, which I thnk can be programmed to do laundry too !). Though after all this, I may be going TEC III........ Adam
Lockjaw
The latest temp switch I got does not go into the upper radiator hose, it passes thru the fins of the radiator. Just thought I would mention that since you object to the hose deal.
