Guest polarity
This has nothing to do with anyone but me, but I needed a place to express my thoughts on my mistake(s) I got my first (and last) DUI Tuesday night. To be honest it scared the sh!t out of me. I really could have hurt someone (and almost did). I'm glad I was caught because if I was that stupid, I obviously needed a good kick in the @$$.. Now I find myself reflecting on the night, wondering why is it that the first time I decide I'm ok to drive (after drinking) would be the one night I end up almost getting killed. I pulled across a median on the interstate and went head on into oncomming traffic (almost colliding with a police officer). When I talked to the officer (after I had time to sober up) I apologised to him, and thanked him. It just really makes me wonder, I (until now) had considered myself a fairly smart guy. I hold down a good job, I lead an overall good life. Why did I do something that stupid. I don't have an answer. So now here I am, 20 years old, 1 DUI and a head full of questions. I just hope no one else out there is as dumb as I was and trys this. Take it from me, it's not worth it. Pay $20 get a cab, or have a buddy drive you. Just don't try to drive. You may be willing to gamble with your life, but you never know how many other lives will be effected by your 10 minuites of idiocy. Mike kZ
I'm glad you can reflect on what you did. Just be glad nobody was hurt or worse. Unfortunetly, now you are going to pay ($$$) The fines are going to be high, + you have to pay for DUI school, not to mention you lose your licence, then have to pay $$ to get it back. I know 2 people that went through this.
Mikelly
Not to mention the fact that you are 20 years old and the national drinking age is 21. The judge will look poorly upon that as well. Look, Don't beat yourself up to much, but just enough to make sure you won't do something so F'ing stupid again. We all do things that are dumb, and it is so easy to zig instead of ZAG, doing the wrong thing instead of the right. Bottom line is when you drink alchohal or do a drug, your decision making processes take a major hit. You might THINK you are OK to drive, and you MIGHT get lucky. You might end up dead. Worse yet, you might end up lucky, but have SOMEONE ELSE end up dead due to your lack of good judgement. You'll have this to remind you every time you go to pay your insurance premium for QUITE some time. Hopefully you won't slip and let the memory slip and allow you to become confident that you can handle alchohal and keys to a car again. Good luck, and glad it WOKE you up! BLKMGK
Ouch! Glad to hear that you made it out okay and that no one was hurt. It's hard not to tell younger folks not to drink&drive, hopefully you'll be able to convince friends just how bad an idea it is. Was there no one out with you? Insurance is going to truly suck after this but hopefully the lesson sinks in. I hope you've not got job that will be impacted by having gotten one of those tickets - I do and am REAL careful.... jt1
Been there and done that. Now in middle age and looking back, it's a wonder I survived my "bulletproof" late teens and early twenties. I cut it way too close way too many times with alcohol, other stuff, and automobiles. Resolve yourself to get thru this without making it any worse. If they're like mine, your family is probably pretty disappointed, so sincerely apoligize to them. Let them know you realize your mistake and how you plan to correct it. Then prepare yourself to face the music. Court, lawyers, loss of driving privledges, high insurance, ridicule from your friends, having to ask your date/girlfriend/wife to drive when you go out, etc. Try to come up with a plan for transportation to school or work before you go to court and actually lose your license. It's gonna be pretty bad, but remember the best thing to do is get thru it without compounding the problem. A big part of growing up is facing up to your mistakes and dealing with them. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. There are gonna be some bad days ahead, but you can handle them with some planning and work. Remember a big part of how this will be perceived by friends and family will be determined by how you conduct yourself in the coming days and months. It's not the end of the world, keep focused on where you want to be in life and how you're going to get there, and deal with setbacks along the way. Like I said, been there, done that, got the shirt. Mikelly
John makes excellent points here. As I posted a couple summers ago, My little brother got nabbed doing 104/55 and was sentenced to a huge fine, Restricted driving to and from school (Community College) and 15 days in jail. The let him out on house arrest at my house. I drilled into his head for 15 days that I wouldn't take it too kindly to hear that he was street racing and doing wrong, being that he was on probation for 3 years... Still has a year to go... Guess who is still street racing? Guess who ALMOST got his ass kicked by a 36 year old and VERY disappointed older sibling??? I hadn't put my hands on him in many years, But the other night he met Mr. Wall and I had to make myself let go of him, and I haven't been THAT MAD in some time. Point is that he still lives with my parents, He is 21, unemployed, and basically draining them dry of extra money that they should be stashing for retirement. He isn't doing ANYTHING to improve his place in society and if he gets caught again He will go to jail, no iffs ands or butts... There are worthwhile mistakes in life... Don't let this one escape you. Mike
Guest polarity
I work at a local hospital (Baptist) where I live, in the IS department. My boss was really nice about the whole thing, said he understood we all make mistakes, just try not to make a habit of it. I told him not to worry on that one. As for the family and friends (this may be a bad thing) but most of them have gone through this (and are supportive) They have also all resolved not to do this again (a couple of my friends have even agreed to quit drinking (because I quit, and they are looking to help out.) I'm trying to make the best out of this, I guess only time will tell Billy
