Guest Anonymous
I am in the Army and live on post. Right around the corner from my batallion is a parking lot with an abandoned 280zx in it that is marked to be towed. Does anyone have any idea how I would go about locating someone with nothing more then their license plate number?
BRAD D
It looks like the window is open. you could look in the glove box for some thing with his or her name on it? Or is that your car in the photo?

Guest Anonymous
The MP's left a number to call if who ever owned it wasn't going to be able to move it before they towed. The only thing I can think to do is see how long they keep it in impound before they auction it off. A lot of guys get stationed in places like Korea and can't take their cars and just leave them behind and forget about them.
VRJoe
The MP's should be able to request the license info from the state it's registered in. Tell the MP's you're interested in getting the car, they should be of help. You may need to get the vin number from the dash, but if it has a tag on it that should be all you need. May cost you a cup of coffee or two, but that's a cheap way to make friends with the MP's - Joe
Poundz9oh9
MP here! Ok, first off through my experience the MP's won't render any of the registered owners information to you. It's against regulation. Once the MP's actually tow it your pretty much screwed. They'll mail a certified letter to the owner telling them they have 90 days to come get it. Then it'll go into an impound lot for 90 days and DRMO will auction it off. You may be able to get the auction info from the DRMO office. But like I said it'll be another 90 days from the day they tow it. Now, if you go to the DMV and request the info, the dmv will send a letter to the owner telling them that your trying to get their info, if the owner doesn't dispute them giving you the info then it's yours. It's all a big hassle, your best bet would to make a "friend" thats in law enforcement or someone who has access to that info.
DavyZ
If you can find out where they tow it, the yard may release the car for sale after a while w/o ever going to auction. There are towing yards here in the Bay Area that do that kind of thing. I have been to one in particular that had a Datsun Roadster that my bro picked up for $300. What a deal. Talk to the yard and find out about how to get it from them. Make sure you don't overpay for the car either. Davy
Poundz9oh9
Then fact that he mentioned MP's leads me to believe that the car is on the army installation. Things work a little bit different there ... if the MP's tow it, there's no chance he'll be able to "work a deal" with the "tow yard" because it's all ran by the MP's. Talk to an MP, see if he'll hook you up .. it's a long shot but you never know, or go to the MP station and talk to the Traffic section (they typically run the impound lot operations) they MIGHT help you out, but like I said it's a tough crowd to get into, but you never know. Guest Anonymous
yeah.. the car is on post.. there was a number on the car for the person that owned it to call.. I am going to try that on monday.. I'm not sure if the cars are imponded on post or not, because the few times that I have had gate guard we had to let civilain tow vehicles come on post to move these kind of vehicles, but I am not sure where they actually brought them. denny411
You might be able to get the info directly from the BMV. In the state of Ohio you can get information about ownership from vin or licence # directly from the Ohio state BMV.
