KraZeeZX
First of all, everyone be sure to wish that special someone a happy mother's day (where it applies appropriately ). And the meat of the post, (for those of you who don't wish to read my ramblings below): my Z is coming home on Monday regaurdless of it's status and I will be completing her myself now that I am back from college and actually have the time. Let me tell ya, working with this shop has been one hell of a learning experience and man is it going to give me a great chance to practice what I learned in business law class! I'll make much more detailed comments on my website (which is now up and being worked on progressively with 'decent' bandwidth for those of you who wish to browse.) All of the mayhem aside, my baby is coming home finally on monday the 11th. Nearly 5 months after making the BIGGEST mistake ever, (which my dad and I both sorely regret) my Z will be home and finally back in caring hands. That's 5 months of being lied to and lead on to believe that honest people actually wanted to help me with something spectacular. I learned otherwise... the hard way and wow has it motivated me to learn as much as I can about cars so I will never have to leave my cars in a shop ever again! From what I am expecting, here's what I'll be looking at having to do once my car is back in my garage: - Connect my Water Temp. and Oil Press. gauges - Replace the LS1 clutch cylinder with my stock Nissan one to give me a nice stiff pedal. - Put in a fuel pressure regulator - install my gas pedal and throttle cable (which I have a story about) - double check the wiring - find a small windshield wiper motor that will fit now that my firewall has been modified - invest in a nice vintage air AC system to endure these HOT texas summers. For the most part I think I can handle the rest despite my lack of "hands-on" automotive experience. Hopefully I will be able to get everything sorted out and have my Z back on the road by the end of the week. Anyways, thanks for following along with my sporadic and mostly false updates due to my being taken advantage of. Amazing how these Z32 swaps became so popular once mine went underway (even though I know I was never an influence), just wish I could be driving mine like the others already are. And for anyone who buys one of these new Z32 bolt-in swap kits... LUCKY! -Vann
Tim240z
Well, you know what they say----"If you want something done right, do it yourself!"...Sorry to hear that your learning experience was so nasty!! Good luck. Tim
Guest DRK
I have been following along since you started talking about it last fall, and was wondering what happened. I figured you were busy with school and the shop was not working on it or something along those lines. Glad to hear the car is coming home. I have one question though. Why did they modify the firewall? Was this to move the whole engine/tranny combo towards the rear to put the shifter in the factory location? That is the only reason I could think of. One guy on this board put an LT1 in a black Z32 that I think you might have seen. He justed fabbed up some motor and tranny mounts and did not do major firewall reconstruction like it sounds like was done on your car. He has an automatic so shifter location was not as big of a concern. I am still thinking of doing this swap is why I ask. Good luck, DK

denny411
I agree with your opinions about professional garages. Most of them ONLY care about money and will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your business. Almost 17 yrs ago a garage had my Celica GT for 8 weeks. I originally took it to them for overheating. When I picked it up I only made it about 5 miles before it overheated again.
Sparky
i second (or third or forth?) the comments on Pro Shops. no matter what the reason for your car being there, the always fark it up. I used to work for a very prominent Vintage race car shop here in town. They are very well respected, very well known, and very knowledgable. However, I could not believe the way they did business sometimes, to me, it was sickening. I lost all respect for the owners, and partners. While I dont know all the sides of that business, I feel that i know whats wrong and right in a business, as well as personall sense. thats why ive made up my mind that in five-six years I will be opening my own shop. Im not concerned about making big money, i just want to cover my costs and put a smile on the customers face. I want to be proud of my work, and have others be proud to show it off. Ive been ripped to many times in to many different ways. im going back to school this fall to finish out my business degree, and i will go right back into school for my M.E. after that i put the sparky business plan into effect. anywho, got a little off subject here, the moral of all the comments here: "Do as much work as possible yourself!" even if you have to buy a welder/saw/drill/compressor its all worth it in the end.
