JB_BA
I was wondering if there was a good way to strengthen the frame of a 240z (sbc350) AFTER the motor was in and the car was up and running. It already has a 6pt roll bar, can I add frame rails without having to drop the tranny? A friend of mine knows a guy that will do the work for fun, IF it can be done...I'd rather not take it to the performance shop and have all kinds of stuff poked at if it isn't necessary...any suggestions? Thanks
JB_BA
P.S.>I don't know exactly how a frame rail is installed, hence the question about dropping the tranny. Do they run from front to back, and then across, or just straight across the bottom of the car. I was also assuming some sways would help too? denny411
They run from front to rear. You can install frame ties or frame rails with the engine/trans installed. There is another section behind the seats that runs cross ways that can be connected and "tied" to the rails that run under the seats. two40
Sorry to hijack your thread but... I got a quote of AU$800 for the subframe connectors and AU$2600 for an 8 point Chrome-Moly cage. This ends up being $530 & $1700 respectively in US$. Does this price seem reasonable? It sounds high to me but a friend of mine vouches for his talent and usually there is a 3 month wait just to get into the shop. http://www.moodmotorsports.com/ Anyway, when it comes to safety and extending the life of my Z I would gladly pay that much and more so I think I might go for it. denny411
The price seems a little high to me for the frame ties. I`ve got less than 50.00 in materials. It should take about 8 to 10 hours for me to do both sides. A proffessional fab shop should be able to do them in half the time because they have better equipement and more experience than I do. I can`t really say about the cage. I bought mine as a kit and haven`t installed it yet. The price sounds somewhat in line with what one of the local speed/fab shop charges. I guess if they have a good reputation, that has to be worth something.
