Guest jt240z
I have the same question for my T3/T4 hybrid. I added water cooling to my turbo 240, but I'm concerned that I tapped from the wrong source. Right now I'm getting water from the left side of the block near the back where a large screwed in plug normally resides. The other side of the turbo goes to the bottom side of the thermostat housing. Every thing seems to work fine but, at long idles on a hot day, I notice that the water temp begins to climb. I've heard that the best points are from the lines that go to the throttle body. One line from the pump water inlet (coming from the left side of the block at the radiator outlet) and back to the thermostat housing. I've been looking for a way that the water path will pass through the turbo without generating a radiator bypass path. All methods seem to pull water from the thermostat and then back to the engine. This effectively bypasses the radiator if I'm not mistaken. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. Would a restrictor in the turbo coolant line aid in reducing this bypass return flow? Right now I'm using -6 line as my coolant line to and from the turbo.
SleeperZ
-6 will not affect radiator flow. All the throttle body and air bypass plumbing bypasses the radiator - it's about a -6 size. Heck, I don't have a water cooled turbo, and my temperature creeps on hot days... Since the engine is the main circuit, I'm not sure you can plumb it not to bypass the radiator. Unless you want to bypass your heater core, you pretty much have to take your source from under the thermostat, and the only place to return it is at the water pump inlet. Guest Anonymous
Hey, I was just wondering how you were going to connect the outlet of the turbo up to the throttle body? I tried to put the same turbo on my car and the bolt on outlet pipe doesn't fit under the Z inlet manifold, and the compressor housing from the Z turbo won't fit on the RB20 one.
