New rear brake option, with E-brake

Was at the junkyard today. Saw an 85 Supra, with vented rear brakerotors, and an internal (brakeshoe) E-brake. Has anybody ever tried to adapt this setup for a Z ? It should have the same 4 on 4.5" boltpattern for the slip on rotors. I would like to use the rotor and the internal E-brake and then put a pretty Wilwood dynalite caliber on it.

The 81 to 85 four stud Supra has only 266mm dia rear rotors, a bit small IMHO to be bothered with.

On the concept of fitting a drum type handbrake setup, there does not appear to be enough space around the Z rear axle to do it, but I could be wrong.

In the US, cars like the 89Y Corvette and 89F Camaro used PBR calipers which have the handbrake working the disc brake pads. But I have never heard of any US conversion along those lines, which seems strange given that PBR calipers are light and serviceable.

Most of the people I've read about who are using a Wilwood dynalite in the rear have to adjust their proportioning valve almost to the max restriction for proper brakebalance. So by going from say a 12.2 to a 10.47" (266mm) you just reduced the braketorque by 14 to 15 %. So we have less unsprung rotating weight and a better initial (ie before proportioning valve) brakebalance. Additionally the rotor is vented for repeated brake performance.

So, any takers as far as getting the E-brake functional? I will prolly go and get this setup out of the junkyard, to see if I can make it work.

I've looked at the Toyota rear discs, also. Same rotor, parking brake shoes and caliper are found on the Cressida and some Lexus as well as the Supra.

Can't say if the parking brake mechanism will work on a Z but let us know if you pursue it.
