Guest zpeedracer25
I can't find a procedure for setting timing on the 1982 L28ET, no reference to it even in my FSM, just specs. Does anyone know the procedure to set it? I had the engine all torn down...never got to drive the car before tear down. Now the engine won't rev over 5k with out going into what seems like fuel cut. I've watched the O2 waveform when this happens and it goes from 800mV to 200mV and stays there till the revs come back down below 4800 RPM. Adjusting the timing up or down seems to drop the RPM at which this happens. Reseting the computer also seems to help for the first couple of 5k RPM pulls, then its back. Thanks! SleeperZ
Setting the timing is easy. Just make sure you are at idle, and the TPS contact is closed. Then loosen the distributor and turn it until the timing light shows the TDC mark at 20*BTDC. Tighten the dizzy down and you are done. Guest zpeedracer25
Thanks Nathan! I believe thats the way I was setting it, but I'll recheck it to make sure. I was just curious if possibly I was hitting a rev limiter and the computer was cutting fuel due to improper timing. Gary
Lockjaw
Do you have the dizzy driveshaft in the proper orientation? Your tach could also be malfunctioning.
Guest zpeedracer25
yes, double checked the orientation of the diz and my tach does stick when hot, but only at low rpm. High rpm the tach is right on according to my snap on timing light. Thanks for the help guys. I verifed timing and it was 3* low. Problem is still there, but only at full throttle. If I back off the throttle slightly it pulls happily to redline. I'll have to watch what the tps and maf are doing while driving again to get a better idea what is to blame.
