Guest galo913
What parts are needed to replace the 4-spd tranny from the 240Z with a 5-sp T-5 from the 280Z?? What is the difficulty in doing this swap? Do the bolt patterns from the 280 tranny and the L24 match up?? What is required before the swap starts, and how is a swap like this done? If the patterns match, i'm thinking its just a matter of replacing the tranny and no special work is required. All info on this matter would be appreciated. auxilary
nothing special required, direct bolt in. depending on the year and differential you're running, you MAY need a 280 driveshaft, but unlikely
Mike C
You are mixing trans. There is a Nissan 5 speed and a Borg Warner 5 speed. The Nissan 5 speed goes in really easy in a 240. The only thing a ZX 5 speed requires is a modified shift lever since it is at the wrong angle. If you use a 280Z 5 speed, not even that is required. Be careful, as the late 5 speed will make for anemic acceleration in a 3.36 geared 240 as it is designed to run with a 3.90 rear gear. The early 5 speed will work better, but is designed for a 3.54 rear gear. The T5 is a complete different story. It is longer and uses a larger output shaft spline. It requires redoing the rear trans mount and haveing a custom driveshaft manufactured. It does offer the best all around gear rations for an L6 IMO, however.
