Guest Your Car is Slow
I found some "Rubberized Undercoating" in a spray can at autozone. It seems to hold up quite well and is rather thick. Id compare it to the stuff sprayed into the back of my truck as a bedliner (although not quite as thick). The can was fairly cheap (around 5 bucks) and covers a pretty good area. j260z
your best bet is powder coating. if you get all your parts done at the same time you will save quite a bit of cash compared to taking a few pieces in at a time.
Tim240z
Hammerite. Available at home depot. Will fit the bill for what you're looking for. Just make sure you get the smooth finish, not the hammer finish. Tim
Guest cowboy6280
I've used POR-15 before and has worked good for me, very durable. Just make sure the parts are clean of grease/oil. And wear gloves... doesnt come off skin, you will have to let it wear off.
BRAD D
I sand balst then POR-15 works good so far
CU Zcar
I've heard people talk up Hammerite before, I might try it next time. I won't use truck bedliner under a car again, I put some brush-on stuff on a frame rail repair and half of it has been stripped off or is hanging in tatters. It didn't make a smooth coating so you wouldn't want it, anyway
Guest cbrunberg
I'm a big fan of POR 15. works great and will convert any rust that may be there. It's tough as nails. A lot of my old car restoraton friends use it for everything under the car (frame, controlarms, driveline...) then use shoots undercoating from a gun. It's all reasonable at http://www.eastwood.com, and or http://www.por15.com Good luck, Carl
Moridin
I used Hammerite to stop rust in areas that were going to be cut out later. I tried to sand some of that stuff down one time and it's really, really tough. Great stuff and not that expensive.
baddriver
Any coating you use, from powder coating to por-15 to rustoleum will work fine as long as you properly prepare the surface. A nice, clean rust free surface will take any of the products mentioned above. The only real difference I've found in coatings is the UV and chemical (salt) resistance. If you don't drive your car in the winter, I wouldn't worry about it, use anything you feel like, BUT preparing the surface is by far the most important step. BLKMGK
A good powedercoating shop will strip the part bare and do a good job. Nearly all of my suspension was donethis way and it's a VERY durable coating.
