hey guys. im about to place a order on a set of CCW wheels for my Z.

the panasport C8's i was gonna get fell though because they wont sell to me because its a street car and there race wheels.

well im talking to the guy that runs CCW (i guess) and he told me 16's and 17's are the same price. so what size should i get?

i know tire for 17's are more money but its hard to find a wide 16in rim.

whats your guys thoughts.... would my Z sit higher with the 17's? even with my coilovers and etc?

whats you guys think i sould do?

thanks

Your car will sit the same depending on the tire size you get. 235/40-17 and 235/45-16 are pretty close to the same height. With 17s you will have to run lower profile tires and the ride will be a little more harsh but I think there are more tire choices in the 17" size. If the rims are the same price, I would go with the 17s.

Yeah im going for the 17's. now im not sure if i should go for the 17x10s or 17x9's in the rear. and 17x9's or 17x8's inthe front. i want to have that deep dish look and still have the wheels come out flush with the ZG flares.

still lost on what size tires for the front.

thinking of either 265 or 255 in the rear...

any body have pics of 17in rims on there Z's with these size tires on them?

thanks

Not ZG flares but it gives you an idea anyhow. Not sure if anyone has ever seen this pic of my car. Anyway, 17x8.5 with 275/50-17 on the rear and 17x8.5 with 225/45-17 on the fronts. To be honest, I regret putting the 17s on my car. They are incredibly heavy and the thump, thump from the short, non-compliant sidewall combined with the upgraded suspension has gotten old. However, lately I seem to be having senior moments almost everyday :D.

holy crap that thing is MEAN looking.

your really have a badass looking car.

yeah im young and i guess to me the more noise the better lol... not really because if that was true i would be driving a civic.

but i dont think my rims are going to be that heavy, i was told there pretty light.

ill go for the 225 in the front, looks good.

275 looks nice on the back :)...

such a killer car man. :)

I just got my rims yesterday. I ordered a custom pair of Kinesis Motorsport 3 piece rims. The front is a 17X7 with a 4 inch backspace and the rear is a 17X8 with a 5 inch backspace. I bought Kumho Ecsta MX tires because I heard nothing but excellent comments about them. The tire sizes are 215 45VR 17 front and 235 45VR 17 rear.

The quality of the rims are exceptional and they are forged so they are extremely light. Everything fits without rubbing and I didn't have to replace my lowering springs with coilovers. I post some pictures next week.

The set I bought retail for $3500 a set. They are expensive but they are worth every penny. They are normally found on Porshes, Ferrari, Vipers and race cars.

I have owned HRE, Simmons, Centerline, Enkei, Racing Hart, MOMO and OZ wheels. Only the HRE wheels ($4000+ a set) matched the quality, fit and finish.

If you have any questions, give Alan Baylis a call, he is their national sales manager. His phone number is (760) 598-5300. Alan said he would offer a club discount and sale factory direct. Check out thier website for rim options. I bought a set of "K17"

More side wall on the 16's will help your launch in racing but 17 will look better and handle better.

I think

SCC tested this is their last issue. They put on 15's, 16's and 17's on the same car with the same brand of tires and same weight of wheels. 15's were the fastest in a straight line, and decent in the corners. 16's got the best lap time of the day and were a tiny bit slower than the 15's. The 17's were the slowest in both speed and lap time out of the three, but the drivers said they felt more confident driving on them.

I looked at both those tires and they are both excellent. I spent weeks researching tires. Most Porsche and BMW SCCA racers love the Kumho ESTA MX tires. They also received excellent reviews and are considered the performance deal of the century. I suggest you check them out before you make your final decision.

They are available at discount tire and tirerack. A 225 45 17 retails for $120 each and a 275 40 17 retails for $147 each. I know you want a 50 series rear but a 40 series would still offer a decent amount of side wall at that width. They also offer a 285 40 17 for $151.

If you want to read hundreds of reviews, check out the Tirerack website.

the reason i want a 50 is because i want the tires to be able the same size. as in i dont ant a taller wheel and tire in the front then in the back.

unless im going about this all wrong.

i know if i have a 275 its more of a tire so 40% of that tire might equal out the same as a 225-45.

what you guys think?
