denny411
You could have a very late 78 that has been titled as a 79. what is the body style? does the vin# start with S30...? It used to be standard practice to label cars manufactured after september as the following year. For example, a 78 280z manufactured on sept, 1 1978 might be labeled as a 79 280Z. More recently the car manufactureres have expanded this policy. The most extreme case I recall was the 1997 ford f150. They were actually on dealer lots in the early summer of 1996. 280Zone
Does the NZ at the end of your post mean New Zealand? If so that might explain a few things.
Guest Anonymous
yes i am in NewZealand, and the vin number is S30, Trying to work out how to post pics of me beast
280Zone
TheS30 must have been available after 78 in New Zealand. Most of what you are probably seeing in catalogs are based on the cars here in the states. It sounds like you should be looking to buy 78 parts from them. Trevor
I've even heard of '78 260s in the UK ..... some markets stayed with carbs and the 2.6L after the North American market went to EFI.
Sumo
In other countries the Z kept on going the ZX only came in later, in the US 1979 was the first year for the ZX. .....i think 8)
ecp48
I was told by a local Datsun Tech, now with his own shop, that the 280Z was produced into 1978 in SE Asia, which includes NZ and Australia. He also said that like the late US spec 280Z (post May, 1978), they were closer to a 280ZX in all of the wiring and ancillary circuitry, than the previous 280Zs. Hope this helps, ecp48
Guest thebarracuda
just like the British spec 260Z made up untill '79 when they went straight to the 280 ZX.
ecp48
Sorry I should have looked at what I wrote, I meant to say that the Z was produced into 1980, not 1978. Thanks, ecp48
