HI ALL. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON BUILDING A 350 FOR MY 78 280Z AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK OF WHAT I HAVE MANAGED TO GATHER SO FAR.OKAY HERE IS WHAT I HAVE.

350 BLOCK 4 BOLT MAIN (STD BORE)

350 STEEL CRANK (20 UNDER ON MAINS&RODS)

TRW FORGED PISTONS WITH .100 DOME STD (L2304)

COMP CAMS XE 294

WEIAND TEAM G INTAKE(7532)

GM#461 HEADS (WITH SUMMIT RACING 202 VALVES)

CRANE 1.5 ROLLER ROCKERS

HOLLEY 750

DO NOT HAVE RODS YET. WHAT WOULD BE SUFFICENT?

IS THIS COMBO GOING TO WORK WELL?

WHAT KIND OF HP CAN I EXPECT?

WOULD LIKE TO SEE 425-450HP AND RUN ON PUMP GAS. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT. THANX

The CAT rods in the new Summit catalog look like a good deal for the $. USA made and brand new for $200 with good bolts. I think the 294XE is too big a cam for your application. A little more maintenance, but I would look seriously at the 282S solid lifter cam. Unless you have unshrouded the valves in the chamber and at least cleaned up the bowls and mathced the ports to gaskets you won't see 400+ hp. More like 350. At the RPM you'll turn, I'd at minimum pin the studs but would think about going screw in. The solid lifter cam will be worth 25hp over the hydraulic and the port and bowl work should get you in the 425 range at about 6500 rpm redline. Get David Vizard's book "How to build and modify SBC cylinder heads" as you'll more than recoup your investment.

THANKS FOR THE INFO MIKE. I'VE BEEN THINKING OF MAYBE TRYING TO SELL OF MY #461 HEADS AND GOING WITH 215CC IRON EAGLES.WOULD MY XE294 CAM WORK BETTER WITH THOSE HEADS? THANKS JIM

the xe294 is even to large a durration for the iron eagle heads in a 350cid engine , drop back to a xe274 youll be much happier or at least a 282s like Mike C sugguested(both good choices)

the 294xe will kill that engines torque curve, even if you get the IRON EAGLES you will still need to do the port and bowl clean-up but the IRON EAGLES come with screw in studs ans better springs, and clearanced for at least a .540 lift.
