Guest Anonymous
Hey gang I just recently bought an 81ET for my 77 280. I am in the process of refreshing the engine and I was wondering about something. I intend on reusing the intake from the 77 and was wondering about the vacuum line that goes through the throttle body and what it's use was. I am intending on putting a 60mm T/B on the older intake but with the vacuum line running through it, will it mess up the advance on the distributer? Also, what is the device that the line runs through on the bottom of the current T/B that hooks into the wiring harness? Also, what is the best head gasket to put on it to run 10-15lbs of boost? Lockjaw
USe the stock head gasket, and turbo engines don't have vacuum advance.
SleeperZ
The device on the bottom of the stock TB is the BCDD, intoduces lots of air on deceleration, again not used with the turbo setup. Not sure which vacuum line you are referrring to, the small one on the bottom may go to the distributor advance or it may go the the charcoal fuel vapor cannister (I use the tb vacuum to run my cannister). The big one on the top is most likely the outlet of the air regulator, which helps maintain idle speed when the engine is cold.
Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the info. I know that the turbo doesnt have vacuum advance, but on the advice of someone in the know, I had to retro fit the car with the 77 distributer due to the turbo one not being compatable with the stock ignition system. I think I'll just cap off the advance and see how it runs. Thanks
