TomoHawk
I was driving down the freeway at about 60 mph the other day, and I felt a ticking feeling through the steering wheel. It might be a bad bearing on the front, with a tick every revolution. Only thing was you didn't feel it at street speeds. My 78 280Z has 105K miles, with no apparent misuse. Should I replace the bearings? BTW, do the bearing races wear? Thx.
johnc
After 105K miles you won't be wasting your money replacing them. Buy new Nissan wheel bearings (or an equivilant from Timken, SKF, etc. - nothing from China or Taiwan) and install new races.
TomoHawk
Your point is that BOTH bearings and races are are replaceable, so do both?

PETEW
Any one have any good tips on how to get the rear wheel bearings out. I am replacing mine (just in time too, they were starting to scar parts) and can't seem to get them out. Did most of you take them to a press, or....? According to my Hanes manual the outer one should have come out with the hub, but it did not, so now what. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. CruxGNZ
...and any 's on how to get the race out as well would be great. !M!
TomoHawk
According to the pictures I've seen, the bearings come in a cartridge, so there aren't any races to take out.
zcarnut
I wrote up a procedure for replacing the rear wheel bearings for our club web site. Find it at: http://www.automedic.org/smzcc/tech_tips.htm
