Guest scottjuly79
What kind of gains can I expect by adding a 60mm throttle body to my 82ZXT engine??? If anyone has done this upgrade on a setup similar to mine, I would really like to hear how it worked out for you? my setup- stock 82ZXT engine, T3/T4B, SAAB intercooler with 2.5 inch piping, 3 inch. dp. and exhaust, adjustable FPR, 370cc injectors, 13.5 PSI boost. 13.7 at 108.5MPH (I need to break into 12's before winter comes!!!) Guest bastaad525
with that mph I would say you're already really close to 12's as it is, not sure just going to a larger TB would really make a lot of difference, I know it doesn't on an N/A car.... remember too that you have to match port the intake to TB, and will need to run larger intake piping all the way thru to really get any benefit. And even then, I dont think it'd be enough to drop .7 but it doesn't sound like you're expecting that.... I'd think maybe .1-.2 second? Guest scottjuly79
I am guessing that I might gain maybe .5-1 full MPH in trap speed. My 2.5 inch IC. piping will be a perfect match for the 60mm T.B. Right now I have a rubber spacer around the 50mm t.b. so that the piping will fit nice and snug.
Drax240z
Do it for sure. The 50mm TB is undersized in the stock engine, and you are far from stock! I've got one on my car but didn't do any back to back comparisons. With all your other mods, I'll bet you pick up quite a large chunk of power with just the TB swap. Doug71zt
Scott - It made quite a difference seat of the pants in my car, even when I had the stock turbo. It's a bit of a PITA to put on,having to remove the manifold and injectors, porting, grinding, etc. I ran a consistant 13.2 @104 with stock pretty much everything, SDS and a supra IC. Tip-in response is sharper, which is sometimes not a good thing, but I noticed that the car revved up quicker. I'd like to take a look at your car, as I'm in Richmond for the next 5 weeks working at YVR airport. PM or email me if you are interested. Nice trap speed. Did you see a brand new burgandy 03 SVT Cobra out at Mission when you were there? It's a co-worker's car. I think it ran 13.0 out of the box on street tires. Not too bad but $50K. shock: Is your buddy that runs a NA car Mike by any chance? I saw him run a couple times last year. Any some other guy with a direct-port NOS set-up on his 280Z Cheers - Doug
Guest scottjuly79
I think a friend of mine was telling me about your car, Full T4, fully built motor by Andy at Specialty, if that's the car I would love to see some pics., even if it's the car car I was told about I would like to see some pics. (always nice to see local Z's, especially turbo ones) here is a link to my pics- http://imagestation.com/album/?id=4289890085
SleeperZ
A 50mm tb will not keep you out of the 12s - Shane ran one into the 11s. What seems to be keeping you out of the 12s is the same thing keeping me out of the 12s. TRACTION! Get your 60' time down to 1.9 - you already have the mph for a 12, and the Z is perfectly capable of consistant 1.9 second 60's.
slownrusty
I cannot recommend it enough - I installed mine last year and like Doug says, seat of the pants improvement was very noticeable. Any improvement you can make to help a turbo car breathe will be an improvement worth doing. Regards - Yasin P.S: Here is my set-up: Modified Linkage: Ported intake: A bit dark but finally assembled after the weekend of messing with the install: The above picture is quite old as the car is now intercooled and some more mods done as well. Guest steven96
Is the intake the same exact size as the original turbo tb? Does the 60mm just need a little bigger opening? Thanks
Drax240z
THe opening in the intake is smaller than the plenum, so there is lots of room to open it up for a larger TB.
