76 280z compared to a 80 280zx

Hello all,

I'm wondering what the diff is between the 280z and the 280zx, i may have a line on a couple of 280zx's for a reasonable price, i like the look of the z better but after closer inspection i admit defeat, the rust has won out, i'd have to cut up 8" above the rails in order to get rid of the rust and that's just more than i care to tackle...

Any opinions one way or the other are welcome...

Thx Brad,

I have a 76z that i absolutely love the look off, but the rust got the better of it and i beleave it to be beyond repair...

So i was looking at a set of matching 79 or 80 280zx's they do have the t-bar and power windows, a/c but as nise as they are they still don't look as nice as the z does...

there are very few z's in my area so the pickens are slim to say the least, but if this will be reasonable about the price i think i'll take them...

Thx again Brad

ZX weighs less & more aerodynamic.

Are you sure? I always thought ZX weigh MORE...

ZX are more GT cars - plushier. Looks like you've got some DeLuxes out there... Just like mine - AC, Power Windows, Power Mirrors, T-Tops, Power Steering, Leather... All the stuff that moves it up market.

On the other hand, ZX's had all wheel Disc brakes. R200s. But don't use S30 suspension components for the most part. So stuff (like coil-overs) are harder to find and choices are limited.

Where did you get your numbers? Are you talking about stock? Which year 280zx, because they didn't weigh the same thing every year.

These numbers don't agree with you - taken from http://zhome.com/History/zcarperf.html

BTW, if your research was from the flyer that I've seen posted all over the place, it has some incorrect numbers on it. I know they're incorrect because the correct ones are stamped into a plate on my engine bay.
