Guest 260zman
Hi guys. I've got a 260z, with Skyline(R31) struts and brakes (4pot), i've made threaded sleeves which i've welded to my standard struts. I'm using my standard 260z springs, and i've machined the old cutoff perch to slide over my sleeve. i'm also using the original top spring retainer and strut top (for now). My issue is that the front of my car is very high even when the platform is at its lowest. if i go any lower the platform will be close to scrubbing my 16" MOMO's. So i'm thinking about making up a strut top that bolts on just like normal (using bearing etc for steering) but because it won't have all that damping/insolating rubber it'll make the front lower without losing suspension travel. The strut tower doesn't have much room for adjusting camberplates, and the hole in the strut tower at the top is pretty small, (about 50mm at a guess) . what are all you guys using out there? i'm a machinist by trade so anything that can be made- i'm making it. i want to lower the car about 2". sorry about the rambling on but i hope this makes sense!! Cheers. 260zman
blueovalz
I believe the vast majority of those with lowered bodies have the smaller diameter coil-over arrangements, and thereby have the spring perch at, or below, the section width of the tire. Swapping the taller, for the shorter rubber mounts help in some cases (280 vs 240 top rubber) on unmodified strut assemblies.
Owen
MSA sells a top mount that adjusts for camber, $99 a pair I think. Owen
gramercyjam
I'm using some custom jobs like these that Tom made. http://sth2.com/Z-car/front-closeup.jpg
Owen
Are they noisy? Also, what kind of struts are those? Owen
gramercyjam
They aren't noisy at all as far as I can tell. They are 280Z struts wtih Ground Control/Advance Design shocks. He has a pretty detailed writeup on the construction here http://sth2.com/Z-car/
Owen
Pegasus Racing has some camber plates for the Z. http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pdfs/115.pdf Are these the same things Ground Control sells? Owen
gramercyjam
Those are the Carrera camber plates - they aren't the same as ground control but they are good too. I've seen them on one very fast prepared autox Z car in Austin.
