Guest ae86drifter
im building an individual throttle body 16v 4age for my toyota corolla ae86. and i was gunna use SDS (or even Haltec) to power it, but i was wonder what you guys think about this. theres a group buy on my forum (club4ag.com) and I was wondering what you guys think. http://www.perfectpower.com/products/smt6.asp theres the product. the price is 375$ from the group buy. All piggy-back units are reliant on the exiting ECU to provide the fuel and ignition to the engine. For this reason they are bound by the limitations of the existing ECU. Fuel is typically modified by changing the load sensor or lambda sensor signal. Ignition is done by delaying or advancing the crank angle sensors signal. The piggy-back unit tricks the ECU into thinking that it is running under different conditions thereby allowing for a different output. The thing is my 4age was originally MAF(flapper door style) and with ITB you can only use MAP. after exchanging emails with the company basically, MAF (flapper door) reads from 5-0V and MAP reads 0-5V inverted, and since its a piggyback computer my MAP readings will be wrong because the ECU thinks it using MAF. Do you think I could do it with hot cams. (the motor should have 11.5:1 compression and 288/272 duration cams) What do you guys think? 1000$ SDS? 375$ piggyback? sounds too good to be true? i need feedback. yo2001
Flapper door type is AFM (airflow meter) and MAF is mass air flow like Z31 and Z32. I just got HKS S-AFR and it can do both 0-5v and 5-0v
Clifton
You can get SDS through Mike(SCCA) on this board for less than retail, I did. 4cyl systems are even cheaper than the 6's. If you plan on staying in the 4 cyl thing I would get the SDS. The piggy back will work but it's really not the ideal setup and may limit you in the future. After you spend the $400 on it you'll say for a little more I could have gone total programable with the option of going turbo in the future if you want. The SDS is easy to get running with the base program and the amount of control on the timing is great. I would get the 3 bar so it will already be set up for what ever you want (N/A or turbo).
