Guest Craig280z
I've got the Firebird LT1 and 4L60e going in my 78 280z. I was wondering what everyone has done with the transmission mount? I bought the mount that JTR calls for but I don't have the tailhousing that they call for. The 96-98 Caprice tailhousing or whatever it was. Did you guys find the caprice tailhousing or just fab up a bracket to mount onto the camaro tailhousing? If you made a bracket, how did you determine the placement of the transmission to make the bracket? Any advice is appreciated. The motor is in and we are hooking everything up now. Tim240z
Craig, I made a bracket that was of a completely different design compared to the JTR one. It will work without the Caprice tailhousing. There is a pic on my site, but if you already have the JTR bracket, it would most likely be cheaper/easier to just get the new tailhousing. Lone Star 1
Does your 4L60E have the 6 bolt tail piece? If it does and you want to uses the speed-o-cable,and need the VSS then you will have to buy the 6 to 4 bolt adaptor from JTR. You Also need the Caprice tail piece, and other related pieces to modify the VSS location and gears to drive the cable.
Guest Craig280z
Which mount are you talking about? I have a rubber transmission mount that bolts to the mount location on the back of the transmission but that doesn't leave room to run the exhaust pipes through the trans crossmember from JTR. My mount was a little more than $30 also. I paid $80 from the dealer for it. I bought the transmission mount that is in the JTR book. What I was looking for was a way to place this mount at the rear of the tailhousing like the JTR book shows. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about now.... What mount was $30 and what seals are you talking about? I have the 4-bolt housing but I'm not going to run a speedo cable. I am going to get an electronic speedo sometime later. I bought the stuff from JTR to hook it up but I'm going to sell the cable and send back the other stuff. Thanks, Craig
