JoeinCA
Take a deep breath. Think of parts that you have bought locally that are still in their boxes with reciepts. If they are not neccessary, take them back. then go to a junkyard and pick up an entire rear suspension. It should only take about a half hour of work to drop it and get it out. take it home, and you should be able to have wheels on the car in a couple of hours. I paid a total of $100 for an entire rear suspension setup for my Z. and i had it on the road the same day. For every problem, there IS a solution. Tell your pops to calm down. So, your setup will not work at all? Even if it rides low, you can still put it on a trailer. never give up, never surrender. Good luck man, Joe
Guest oldZguy
You've got to get a grip. What part of "live sucks" don't U understand?? Your dad is pissed, yah probably, you come on here hell bent for leather, my kid came at me like that he'd probably have a 1/2" impact up side the head! You need to learn to improvise, adapt, overcome... Instead of going to school you should pop into the military for a tour.... They're pretty good at teaching things you really don't want to know... Mostly about how life sucks and how to turn it to your advantage. Lesson 1: People create their own problems. From the beginning you have been trying to do too much in too little time, times run out and you're pissed... Well really who's fault is it?? Why didn't you have that work done 2 weeks ago? Because your friend is in jail??? Sorry no sympathy here, if you find this to be your biggest "challenge" in life, the one's coming up are going to kill you. If only my worst experience in life is that someone cut my struts too short, I was out of money for replacements, and I was leaving for school in 2 days, life would be paradise Hell I'll trade you! I'll go to school in my rusty Jimmy and you work my job and take care of my old lady and the kids, of course when they are done with the paycheck there's nothing left! RPMS
Dang, oldguy, you don't pull many punches, do you? Oh well, I can't say much. Diplomacy isn't my strong suit either. Mike. CALM DOWN. If all else fails, you don't need struts to put a car on a trailer. Yes, it will bounce around. No, that won't kill it. Just strap it down to the bump stops and you'll be okay. My best suggestion is to go back to the welder and ask him to re-section the struts to the correct length. Maybe he'll take pity on you and do it for free or for a 6-pack. If he doesn't, aren't 240 struts shorter than 280 struts? Maybe you can substitute them and put a spacer in the bottom of the strut tube to make up the difference? This honestly is not a deal-breaker, you know. As others have suggested, get creative and you'll be miles ahead.

Guest ON3GO
well the thing is i need the struts on the car...Alex has to drive it around and tune it so the car needs to be driveable. and i cant just go to a junk yard and get everything and put it in. i have 17x10 in wheels... 275 tires.. i need coilovers and to section my struts. theres no other way around it. i also need the brakes part because of the fact of the car needed to be driveable. now on my fathers part. you dont know the whole story. my dad went over my back on this.. i told him who he took it to wouldnt do it right and that he F'ed up my friends cars on some work. but my dad said "no no no" so i let it go because i dont wanna leave on bad terms. i kept my cool even to the point when i put the strut insert inside the strut and it didnt fit. my dad is the one who started yelling and etc because HE ALONE made a mistake. now please dont go on your life story on how "life sucks"... my life is fine.. i might be alittle stressed out but i should be. im packing up, leavimg my friends and family, a sick dad, and grandma. and everything else i know and love. but sorry to say i my life is just grand.. i have a Z car that grown men on here would love to have.. its not the best, fastest, or nicest car but its mine and i paid for it MYSELF. now i know others on here and other places have done this too, but im proud of myself. im also proud that ill have a total of 10 bucks in my pocket every month because of rent and bills when im in texas.... im proud! and sorry OldZguy that i didnt get my rear struts done 2 weeks ago for ya, like u said SH!T HAPPENDS.. yeah my friend is in jail.. his fault.. yeah i was using his tools.. yeah i was working around his free time to help me out.. yeah im sorry i also had to help his mother out threw this tough time as he has no father... im sorry im a good friend and i desided to drop my things for my friends. im also sorry i couldnt do my struts 4 WEEKS AGO!!! as i was spending time with my sick grandma that i prob wont see again because im moving. now i dont care if you wanna jump down my back because i wanted to vent abit.. i dont mind.. just please get the facts right before you write. i will agree with you on doing too much in too little time. im 100% with you on this. i went over board on some stuff, but i didnt know i would be going to this school when i bought this car. but i still wanted to try my hardest to get it done with my dad. i think i did pretty good. i also went back today to the welder and SHOWED HIM HOW TO DO HIS WORK CORRECTLY... i did it myself with his tools and they came out right. i now have the struts half on my car and i will have this car on all 4 wheels ready to be shipped to miami in perfect driving order. now im sorry if i came off pissed but i am, and i needed to get that out. mike

JoeinCA
well, i am glad that you got it sorted. when i said entire rear end, i MEANT it buddy, tires and all. I dont want to be mean, and i dont want to make an enemy of anyone, but whining gets old REAL fast. If you had a problem, there are ways to express yourself that do not include making yourself out to be the victim, even if you ARE! the title, "I'm totally F#cked" is a bit more than very melodramatic. I'm not trying to lecture, and if you get all pissed at me... so be it. you could even tell me that if i dont like your posts, then by golly, my "bumpkin know-it all butt" can just piss off and not bother to read them. But above all other things that i hold true in life, I know for a fact that the attitude you put forth from time to time, will get you no more than a pat on the head from a very kind person, and a cold shoulder from the indifferent, but both will not feel like dealing with you. Old guy: Life is what you make it, it does not suck by default, shit may not always be fair, but that is life. I think that is what you were getting at anyway, but i just feel that pessimism breeds more of the like. And yes, i have bitched and moaned with the best of them, I am not saying that i am any better than anyone. Just telling it hows i sees it. JoeinCA
mike, I apologize for being so blunt... i was pretty cranky last night. it was my first day at Wyotech, and i had to listen to a bunch of kids who were incessantly moaning about how much they didnt want to be there. I didnt mean to take it out on you man. Have fun in texas... you may end up with whiplash from looking at the all them fine women, so be careful . joe. Guest oldZguy
Hey Mike, Count me in with Joe, yesterday was a bad day (sometimes life does suck ) and when I saw your post, it just pulled my trigger, I vented too. Nothing like a Monday.... My wife calls me brutally honest, never ask my opinion if you really don't want to hear it I guess. My friends know and never ask, makes it sort of nice in a way Anyway I just want to say that I went back and looked at what you have done in so little time and truthfully I am suprised that you got as far as you did, considering what all you did and the time you had to do it. Good Job! Take care in TX, and good luck with school, life, and your Z. Lance
Guest ON3GO
thanks Lance... its ok like i said i dont mind.. all is well yeah im happy for what i did. the passenger side rear suspension is all done... brakes too... i leave tomorrow at 9 i think so im staying up all night doing the driver side and im hoping i get done.. so i can have the car on the ground.. i dont want my dad to do any more work on it.. he is real tired and does to much anyways. plus he isnt a health guy and cant do it by himself. so all my dad would do is load it on a trailer and bring it to miami. i hope to get this car in texas with me soon.. ill pray everyday. thanks mike
labrat
If you ever get up to the austin area, look me up! I'll let ya wrench on my 81 ZX, and if that isn't good enough, we'll take my 99 Miata on some twisties with the top down! I know the frustration you're feeling! I worked on my z for almost 2 years, then overheated the motor and have to do most of it again! Working 3rd shift full time, and going back to school full time doesn't help much, either (you ever try working on a car in your driveway in texas heat in the summertime? Not pleasant). But i'm graduating in december, and then the Z becomes my full time hobby. I've had the Z parked in the garage without so much as turning a bolt on it for almost a year, and that "cooling-off" period has been just what the doctor ordered for restoring my motivation.
