Modifying L6 oil pan

I'm making the sump on my L6 turbo oil pan a little longer. It should add a couple more quarts of oil. I think that would be nice for the turbo motor. Its got me thinking about trap doors, and baffles and such. Any one want to recommend anything?

I'd do trap doors, crank scraper and windage tray. I have the Malvern racing pan and they use really simple hinges and sheet metal for the trap doors. The doors are arranged in a diamond shape so that they don't work only front to back or side to side.

Here's a link http://www.malvernracing.com/showcase.html

My pan doesn't have a scraper, and when I put it on I didn't have time to make one. The windage tray seems much better than stock, but I don't think it is shown on the website. Basically it just has one hole big enough for the pickup and multiple small drain holes back to the sump around the edges.

Jamie,

I like the new pan MSA and others are selling.

I think it gives a 6 quart fill instead of a 5 quart fill with the stock pan.

I have run a fram PH 997A in the past, but use an Amsoil SDF26 on the car.

With the SDF 26 Amsoil or the fram PH 997a, I get a 6 quart fill.(stock pan, no oil cooler)

Note, the fram does not have anti drain back vavle.

Getting any sleep these days? :D

Sleep... I remember that stuff...

I wouldn't use a Fram filter if I got them for free. I like the cast aluminum pans as well, but seeing how I'm more talented metal man than I am rich, I'll have to make due. I'll get some of those Amsoil filters from you. I've got about another month of body work on the '73, then the motor goes in. I know, I'm slow.

I think I paid $399, but I bought it from Arizona Z Car. I would buy it from Malvern, I think they are a little cheaper and they include the cap screws and a comp oil pan gasket. I wish I knew that when I ordered.

One more thing. That oil pan is HEAVY. I never weighed it but its gotta be 10-15 lbs. Thick cast aluminum. They say it adds rigidity to the block though, and a stock one doesn't because the sheetmetal flexes under load.
