Guest jjohart
Hi. I'm getting my 83 280ZX Turbo this weekend, and I noticed the former owner let it idle several minutes before my trying it out last month. I was at the NE Z club car show yesterday, and the owner I talked to with an identical engine said that the turbo 6 tends to knock/drive poorly if not warmed up (as well as idled down for safety). Is this a non-fixable/addressable issue? I have always been one to drive off with my vehicle almost as soon as starting her up from cold, but then being gentle as eggs under my throttle foot (i.e staying way off). What is the deal with these cars when cold, and what are possible "fixes"' or maybe there are reasons why these owners didn't deal with it, and lived with it as is? Any ideas? Thanks John
Clifton
There's may knock when cold but all of the L6's I've had have never knocked when cold and although I should, I rarely ever wait till they are up to full temp before getting into it a little. Tim240z
My 83 ZXT used to do that sometimes too. I kinda assumed that maybe the piston to bore clearance on the turbo motors are bigger, thus when cold there is a bit of piston slap? Don't really know...
