ignition upgrade?

Recommended Posts

ZX dizzy is a plug and play, and if you go MSD from there you can eliminate the module on the side of the distributor. I never had a module fail, but I did eventually eliminate the module just to take one more possible failure out of the system. The ZX has less mechanical advance than the early distributors too, so you can run more static advance.

Here is a useful site that talks about 510's, but its the same stuff, just 4 pronged stator or 6 pronged stator:

The easiest way to ditch the points is to drop in a Pertronix. You basically gut your current points, insert the Pertronix unit into your current distributor, hook up two wires, and go. I have one on my race car. It does fine with 300 hp and over 7000 rpm. You can get them from Classic Datsun, MSA, etc. Should be something like $80-$90

The diagram for the Pertronix is the same wiring scheme I used. It works fine. If you found the Pertronix for $70, that's a pretty good deal. I don't have the exact Pertronix p/n with me, as the race car and spares are not here right now, but the p/n should be easy to verify. You can even call Pertronix, which is what I did originally to verify the wiring scheme.
