DatsunBoy77
Ok, i ambout to start wiring my megasquirt into a engine harness. Coming of the DB-37, did you all go from 18 gauge until you get chrome plastic end and then go up to the larger gauge wires? I was thinking about how I can make those huge wires fit on that small connector, especially the grounds. I am using 12 gauge for the grounds because I seem always to have ground problems and want to be safer than sorry later. So should i just use 3 inch of 18 gauge off the connector then go larger? That seems like the only real choice. Thanks.
Xander
I used 1.5mm2 (I don't know gauge size) And this was also to large. I trhink it would be best to use a smaller gauge wire on the sensor stuff and use bigger wires on the injector and ground wires. The problem was not soldering the wires on the connector ( I used shrink tubing (sp?) on all the wires) but I did not get the case to close around the loom. I ended up taping the lot together. Not very neat but it works. good luck
DatsunBoy77
Yeha thats basically what i am doing, but for the grounds and injectors wiring seems too large to solder to the connector. Should i use a smaller gauge wire to soider to the connector and then increase the size. Does anyone have any good pics of their job. thanks. Guest Boyd
I used 18ga wire and cut the chrome plastic connector to fit. I wired mine directly to the ECU harness plug and have had great results. I did not have to perform ANY injector wiring. The only thing I had to do was modify the IAT connector for the one wire GM sensor I used. Used Easytherm to set MS to use stock CLT. Also, I found out my '77 has resistor packs for the injectors already, so all I had to do was set MS to use high impedence injectors. And you do not need to wire up fuel pump lead from MS as the fuel pump comes one already with the ignition switch. At least that is the way mine worked. Tach signal from pin 1 of the ECU connector should give you a good tach signal. That is where I picked mine up from. Good luck!
DatsunBoy77
I am running a whole new harness, but my injectors are going to be high impedence, so no need to use the resistor packs. I havent decided on the flow rate though. I still have to get my pigtails for the gm sensors and some more wire and i should be done. I managed to use just about 3" of 18 gauge and fit it all through that small hole in the silver case. Soldering that was such a bi*tch. I hope they hold, i dont wanna bust that caes open again. Thanks guys.
jkube
Hey guys, I'm just going through and wiring up my Megasquirt on my 240z (will now have F. I. ) You didnt have to go up in wire sizes for the ground wires. Remember the smaller wire wire size will still be the weakest link in the system, so increasing it in size will do nothing. Megasquirt suggests 20ga all the way through except for the Injector banks Use the 16 ga for the Injector bank wiring but only because you have to split the wire between pins 32 & 33, and 34 & 35. I'll try to get some pics of my setup in the next couple days.
