maichor
Is there a good aftermarket gear oil to use with the VLSD. They suggest a special oil from the dealer, but $$$!
Drax240z
How much $$$? Quality lubricants aren't cheap.... And remember that this is something you aren't going to have to change that often.
maichor
Yes, my point exactly. What is that $$$ paying for. Is there a super synthetic or other gear oil that is better than the recommended Nissan stuff, You know, like Lucas is quality for trannies. Is there a top dog for VLSDs? jonzer12
There are synthetics for transmissions and diffs. Personally I use Redline products. Never hurts to shell out the coin for good lubricants.
Drax240z
I use redline as well. I am just wondering how much money the nissan stuff costs.
jaime240z
Also, what visc. wt..etc.. is everyone using for the VLSD? IS 80w90 the standard?
Synlubes
Amsoil 75w-90 gear lubricant. The limited slip additive is also available. Depends on how you use the vehicle (racing, autoX or street use) as to how long the fluid will last you. Also remember, if you put clean oil in a dirty environment it`s going to get contaminated from all the nastiness left over from the previous lube. My recommendation (regardless of what synlube you go with) is to drain and refill with some quality petroleum product and run it for a 100 miles or so (to clean things) then drain and refill with synthetics. Drax240z
I'm really liking the Amsoil gear lube too these days. It's good stuff!
240Z2NV
I have had Royal Purple, as well as Lucas products recommended by several enthusiasts with very hi-perf. cars
jaime240z
Is the VLSD additive necessary? I could not find it in the Amsoil product line-up...?
Synlubes
Slip-Lock differential additive It`s only needed if you are having chatter problems.
Guest JAMIE T
I am looking into fluids for my R230 VLSD. I can see the gear oil being used, but does a VLSD need a friction modifier additive? The VLSD doesn't have friction plates right?
Guest whyme
Red-line Shockproof 0-250 weight already has anti-chatter additive in it .So if you go that route don't add more. Also All I run period . It's worth the 7-8 bucks a qrt.
