Guest dvlax28
hey i just wrecked my dad's daewoo leganza, rear wheel suspension, wheels, shock towers, all screwed up. i have about 2300 dollars that i was going to spend on a 73 240z in california, the owner and i were set on friday for me to come get it. he was asking 2500. he claims the car is worth more, and he is only letting us have it for that much because its a project car and he has to get rid of it (his wife). so im wondering, with all the specifications i am going to list, how much is this 240z worth? i might need to sell it to pay for the wreck, because i dont have an extra who-knows-how-many thousands of dollars. 1973 240z 280zx engine 2.8L straight-6 holley 4-barrel carburetor alloy Z wheels good tires, radials i think? paint is a little chipped, some dents, good at 15 feet. hood is not original, the previous owner wanted to race it, so he cut a hole in the hood for some reason, car is orange, hood is orange-red minor minor surface rust on floorboards no rust anywhere else door locks dont really work trunk and passenger door dont close exactly runs like a beast, with the 280zx engine and holly carb and the racing mods he has done: cam, engine possibly bored, etc. it peels out awesome, sounds really nice custom air filter, one of those circle-shaped ones really fast, probably high 5 seconds in 0-60mph muffler wiggles around a lot work done by mechanics, clutch work just done 4-speed manual, a lot of original stuff, no rust under spare tire with those facts, can anyone guess how much i could get for this car? im in phoenix, az and i really need help, would take me like a year with my 6.50/hour job to make anything close to 3k for the repairs estimates on value? not an original Z but in sweet mechanical shape thanks for any help jAsOn
johnc
If the "no rust anywhere else" is true (which I doubt) then its a $3,000 car. Maybe $4,000 if you're not in a hurry to sell it.
Guest dvlax28
that's it? for a fast 4-speed 240z with all that stuff on it? the guy claimed he could sell it for 5k but i kinda guessed he was exaggerating.im hoping for like high 4000s because the daewoo is gonna need like a whole new back suspension work, and my parents arent gonna pay. also, has anyone ever tried using ebay to get donations? my friend claimed he used it once, but ive never heard of it before...well if anyone is looking to buy a orange racing 240z, i should have it in a couple days, email me or post here if you're interested, i'm in phoenix, az 85044 jAsOn
johnc
The mechanical side of an early Z is pretty cheap and easy to build. The cosmetic side is where things get very expensive. It would acutally be worth more if it had a perfect body, paint, and interior and a junk engine.
Forrest
If the "no rust anywhere else" is true (which I doubt) Yeah, really. Have you checked under the battery tray, under the hatch, underneath the seats, in the spare tire well? If so - how about looking inside the frame rails, or underneath the support panel is at the bottom of the front fender wells? I'm helping a guy work on a "rust free" car. Indeed, it looked pretty rust free until we stripped off all the undercoating. They DO exist, though - maybe you have one. Best of luck.
