I have a 305, and I don't know if the heads from a 350 can be used (assume not, 3.75" bore) but I wont buy heads unless they are 350 compatible, or they are for my next 350. SO, What are you guys running, and what are you happy with? And of course, how much they set you back?

I'll start:

Mine are DartII with 2.05/1.60 215cc runner's

ported to match the intake. Double springs

(Competition Cams) rated up to .700 lift cam.

I am also using crane gold roller rockers,

split ratio 1.65 intake/1.6 exhaust..

I got a screaming deal on them with the intake..

I'm running Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads with a Crane "621" hyd roller cam and Crane aluminum roller 1.5 rockers.

Mattrp, most Chevy hds (pre '86 or '87) are inter changable from 302 (not 305 or 307) to 383.

Here are the Bore and Strokes for the comman sbc models: 302(B 4.000-S 3.000);

327(B 4.000-S 3.250); 350(B 4.000-S 3.48); 383(B 4.030-S 3.750) and 400(B 4.125-S 3.750). The odd ball is the 305(B 3.750-S 3.480). Most all aftermarket hds will fit these same blocks up to and including the 400. If you've got a 305, you're probably out of luck for changing up to a 350 with 305 hds. frown.gif

Matt, I'm running TrickFlow aluminum 23 degree heads http://www.trickflow.com/product/23_cylindarheads/product_index_23.htm and they very good. With 64cc chambers and flat top pistons it comes out to ~10.5:1 compression ratio so I can run the engine on 93 octane pump fuel. I just checked the paperwork that came with them and they will fit the 262, 283, 305 and 307 small block Chevy's as well as the bigger bore engines. And yes, they have the big 2.02/1.60 SS valves.

In most big valve heads the 2.02/1.60 valves hit the top of the bore if it is not at least 4.00" in dia. However, if you run smaller valves (i.e. 1.94/1.50) they should clear the top of the cylinder bore.

So yes, you can buy a set of TrickFlow 23 degree heads now and then swap them to a 350 or larger later on. Check Summit for prices.

Thanks all! I looked into the trickflow heads, and I think that heads are now my next step to more power. These stock 305 heads are horrible. Now if the trick heads can go on any sbc, then there has to be some normal 350 heads from the factory that will also fit, and that would mean a huge increase in valve size.

Does anyone know anything about doing this, or am I on my own??

Heads with 1.94 intake valves 1.60 exaust should fit. These are a very commom 350 chevy item. However if you bolt them on a 305 you will loose compression because they are designed for a large bore engine and have larger cc combustion chambers. Find out what the cc are on your current heads before switching to a 350 head.

I'm running the 6089 edelbrock performer RPM 64cc heads as is EXCEPT I severely fatigued the OE springs (they're not v. good) so swapped in some Comp Camp springs more suited to the roller I'm now running. FWIW I had them flow tested against a set of 2.05/1.60 Air Flow Research street heads with minor porting that I had and they were virtually the same (so sold off the AFR's as several chamber construction issues of AFR's weren't favoured by local whizbang builder I was getting some info from).
