stjoetalon
After reading a million old posts on the subject, I have decided on a 4 pt. -I know that a 6 pt is required for 11's, but I only plan on hitting the track a few times. Ill brake at the end. -I cant afford a quality 6-8 pt cage. -Will f/r tower braces, subframe connectors, and a 4 pt. be sufficient on a mostly solid 280z to withstand 500+ lb/ft? I wont be racing this car. Maybe play around with autocross on very few occasions, but mostly I am looking for a mean street car. I just dont want it twisting like a pretzel. My guess is that on street tires, I wont bite hard enough to have too much chassis flex. I hope the above mentioned mods can take care of it. What do you guys think? Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
If you can't afford a 6-8 point cage, you probably cant afford to go through halfshafts at the rate that 500+ ft/lbs of torque will bust them at if it hooks up. I'd say smoke the tires all you want and a 4-pt cage will do. Never did understand the reason for so much torque in these cars..
mas28O
My Alston roll cage was less then $200 for the 6 point. I think that the side bars tie the car in very good.

Guest 240hybrid
A 4 point should do a good enough job in saving you and your passengers if you ever flip the car....lets hope not. Safety is #1. All the stuff you mentioned should keep the car in one piece, but that 500 + ft lbs of torque will be pretty harsh, and over time might twist the body a bit. There are other ways to stiffen the car up too, use the search function and a wealth of knowledge will be unearthed. I read that one guy was installing 2"x4" boxed steel into the rockers as a reinforcement, which seemed like a good idea, welding plate steel into the trianglulated area underneath the fenders (where the body molds into the frontend) will stiffen the front end some too, but might be more for handling. There are a plethora of tips and stuff that you can do yourself if you have a welder and a little extra $ floating around. Good luck. z-REX
thanks mike! by the way... is every third member of this site named mike? my biggest concerns are with door clearance... i want to use talon buckets and alot of cages i've seen ride too far in to use a seat like that. one of the biggest reasons i personally was planning a 4-point, but the added stiffness benefit would be good.
