Guest jjohart
In the course of this week's install of I/C and 3 inch exhaust and downpipe, my installer mentioned that oval pipes are beneficial to flow. Can someone offer a brief explanation of why this may be so, if the gains are so nominal as to be a waste of money over standard pipes? Thanks John 83 280ZXT
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Did your installer offer any explanation? I have heard that they flow marginally better around bends, but that is all I have heard.
yo2001
where to get them, that's my question.
jhaag
Burns Stainless sells oval tubing. http://www.burnsstainless.com/OvalTubing/ovaltubing.html John
denny411
I`ve never heard of any benefits of oval mandrel bent pipe over round mandrel bent exhaust pipe. The only true benefit that I can see is for ground clearance.
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I think the only real benefit is ground clearance going under low cars.
Phantom
The only real advantages of oval tubing are: 1) It can be bent in a tighter radius without crimping the tubing, and 2) It gives better ground clearance where it runs under the rear half shafts. Unless either of those two items are needed I would stick with round - much more common, easier to work with, and less expensive. I looked at oval because of running a 3 1/2" exhaust on the LS1 but am going to try to stick with round.
