Guest CR8Z
Does anyone know of a transmission that might bolt up to a 1JZ GTE and be long enough for the gearshift to be in the right location. Also the transmission has to be able to handle the engine.
Clifton
The R154 will bolt up and the shifter will come up through the center if you dog leg it. Compared to everything else involved it was easy. I used the Z car top and R154 base. The G series will also bolt up but I don't know were that puts the shifter, it's also not as strong. Guest CR8Z
So are you saying that you used the Datsun bellhousing along with the R-154 transmission? Also what did the R-154 transmission come out of?
Clifton
The R154 came with 1JZ's and 7MGTE's. The shifter will be about 2" more forward than the Z shifter. I cut the R154 shifter off at the base and welded a 3/8" thick by 1" wide by 2" long peice of steel to the stub and then welded the top of the Z shifter to that, just 2" further back. The JZ's and 7M's use a different bellhousing but the trans is the same.
RB26powered74zcar
Can anyone tell me if the 1JZ R154 trans will bolt up to the 2JZ? If not what was the #/name of the 5spd trans that came on the 2JZ?

RB26powered74zcar
So are you saying that you used the Datsun bellhousing along with the R-154 transmission? Also what did the R-154 transmission come out of? I don't think Clifton used the Datsun bellhousing. I'm sure he ment he is using the R-154 bolted up to the 7MGTE. Clifton
Your right, I guess I wasn't clear. Trans and bellhousing and front D shaft yoke are all R154 Toyota.
