Got my new heads today HELP needed

Cliff notes: Tell me what to do about a camshaft now, what parts will I need, what cam specs, and what power can I expect?

 

They are GM casting number 14011034 Phase II heads with 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves with triple springs. They were slighty machined for higher compression. The heads are cast iron with 64cc chambers (now shaved) and 184cc intake runners.

 

Right now I have a stock small block crate motor with a roller cam and TPI with SLP intake runners and the Holley Commander 950 ECU. I am going to be getting a comp cams roller camshaft to go with the new heads. Does anyone have flow data for these heads? It came with a hyd. flat tapper cam and lifters, should I go with that and switch to flat tappet, or sell the cam and lifters and stay with a hydraulic roller?

 

Anyone have camshaft suggestions? I was thinking along the lines of a 270H magnum.

 

If anything did not make sense, just ask and I'll be glad to help clear things up.

you did not say what size or compression that crate motor has so Im assumeing its a 350 with flat top pistons, the roller cam will have advantages, Im useing a crane #119661 hydrolic roller cam , it worked very well with a TPI intake and SLP runners before I swapped to a HOLLEY STEATH RAM , it was the wildest cam that did work with the TPI setup and it still works WELL with the STEATH RAM (but a slightly wilder cam would work better for racing now that Ive swapped as the HOLLEY STEATH RAM adds about 1500-2000 useable rpm to the engines breathing)

but keep in mind this cam is designed for good mid and high rpm HP, its NOT designed for a smooth idle and a great daily drive its designed to kick butt!! the engine will not idle smoothly but it will make good hp from 3500rpm -6500rpm

you should be able to use all the stock roller cam stuff but check all your clearances carefully and talk to crane when you order the cam , ask lots of questions!!!!

and don,t forget to check your rocker arm clearances also, btw 1.6 rockers are NOT a good idea as they add little or no performance and most likely get the clearances to close/tight use 1.5 ratio rockers

 

btw my computer shows youll get about 440hp/456tq with that setup if everythings correct and a single plane intake like a super victor with a carb about 750cfm is about correct.(for anyone reading this with a similar combo that wants to use a carb) BUT YOU CAN GET BETTER FLOW FROM THOSE SLP RUNNERS AND TPI STYLE BASE BYE SIAMESEING THE RUNNERS FOR THE FIRST 2" AND OPENING UP THE PLENUM and runners

I agree with Grumpy on the 1.6 rocker thing. I am NOT a fan since it is just a crutch for the wrong size cam for the most part. (Although I have a set on the LT1 I just recently acquired, I'll run 'em but wouldn't have bought 'em.)As far as the Bowtie head, I believe they have a raised intake port so check for match with your intake. Also, if the heads have been angle milled rather than just milled, you may have to have your intake cut to match the angle of the heads and prevent air leaks. The 270 cam may be a little wild for the TPI intake you have. Grumpy is correct about a bigger power gain by swapping to a hydraulic roller. With the fuel injection, You may want to specify 114 deg centers instead of 110.
