Heavy Z
Check this out - interesting idea and very efficient too: http://www.rnw.nl/science/html/031215wheel.html

VRJoe
I suspect that this will be the way of the future. Think about how easy it would be to build a car if the power train is in the wheels. Now, if I can get four of them ... modify the suspension a little .... The possibilities - Joe
akeizm
still doesnt beat a good ol internal combustion engine in coolness.
blueovalz
I believe some of the BIGGEST dump trucks use this technology of having each wheel electrically driven as well.
Dan Juday
A good idea for buses and heavy equipment, but not soon to go in light passenger cars. Can you say "unsprung weight"? And you guys gripe about heavy Toyota calipers.
baddriver
I think Dan has the downside correct. Battery packs and the like add up to huge pounds, which don't make a huge difference on a bus, but on your car will add up to a lot of mass. That being said, I feel this sort of advancement is fantastic, and I hope to here more about it. Gotta love higher efficiency, everyone wins! Guest HBskinheadZ
Those motor rims would look cool on my wifes car . What if you had two of those motors (they would be alot smaller considering the weight of the z say 16") and put them in the rear, put the batteries in a drop out tray in the trans tunnel and put a small powerplant in the engine compartment, would the weight at the wheels cause the car to understeer or oversteer? What if you had 4 of them, could you make an actual race car with a traction control system that would deliver the correct amount of current to the tire that needed it. Could be interesting . strotter
Is it just me, or does that bus look like one of those SUV's with the "dubs" on it?
