I need some advice on picking a cam for a TPI 305 with headers, bigger TB, runners and an auto tranny. I'm new to V8 stuff and I'm really not sure which one would guve me the best power and still work w/ the TPI

the big cam companies make a performance cam for tpi motors, theres not much choice there, i would pick the hairiest one that will work just because we tryin to go racin right?

tpi wont be able to handle too much cam, is it a roller cam year or no? either way they cant handle too much cam, drives tpi crazy.

honestly, i wouldnt do a whole lot to the tpi motor

maybe a cam-but to get some bang out of it i would

pack the crap out of that trans, kit it up and let the rubber fly.

i used to have a 305 firebird, it was crap, but it had posi.

It's an '88 IROC motor, so I think it's a roller. I'll look and see if I can find the "TPI" cams that you mentioned. Thanks foe the help. I'll look into the tranny too. It's a 700r4. BTW I will be getting posi for the rear and some better gears too.

SLP makes several different TPI grinds. My buddy has an '86 flat tappet 305 TPI in his '74 Corvette convertible. It has the SLP flat tappet cam, Edelbrock intake base (the OEM was warped), fuel pressure regulator, 1 5/8" headers, 2400 rpm converter and 3.07 gears. It has run a best of 13.97 in the 3600# Corvette. The LT4 cam without the 1.6 rockers would be good for a 350 TPI, but too big for the 305 IMO.
