Guest bOOsted 240Z
CHEVY 350 engn / 350 turbo tranny, many hi-perf. parts. $1000 Hi-perf. parts are; edelbrock; intakes-cams-carb-fuel pump, some cheap header, Mallory ignitions. Is that a good deal?
DavyZ
Is it new? Was it built properly? Which Edelbrock parts? Forged or cast pistons? Stock bottom end? How many miles? Davy
Guest bOOsted 240Z
I think the bottom block is stock. The rest are just add on. Have no idea how many miles on it. Forgot to ask what year is the block too.
Guest zfan
Not too bad a price if the motor and tranny are in good shape mechanically. Mike
SpeedRacer
If you are going to put it in a Z car I would check your rear axle ratio. The THM350 is only a three speed trans. So, if you have the usual 3.70:1 or higher I think you will find that your RPM's will be a bit high at freeway speeds. Remember, you can get a brand new 350 Chevy from Pace for $1,189.00 (+$100 for the core) http://www.paceparts.com/store.asp It even has a 12 Month/12,000 mile factory warranty! labrat
Also remember that a used th350 trans goes for somewhere aroung 100 bux... So that had better be a good engine.
fl327
IF its a drop in and turn key setup I think its fair. I love th350s almost as much as I love the M21-2 and t10 trannies. TH350s do go cheap though. The place I used to go to get them rebuilt was 200, plus 50 to have a shift kit installed. for 500 I could get one rebuilt that would scratch with a off idle vaccum! Strong and cheap, thats one thing it has going for it. Buddy has an el camino with a 1mm over 454 with flattops and a .540 lift cam, forged bottom end and what not, and beats the living crap out of a th350 on a regular basis. Its his fun car so everytime it comes out, it gets the ride of its life. (I still pulled a door a him on until the 1/8 mile though ) 1:1 is kinda bad since gear ratio in a z is so limited, 3500rpm will get you hanging with traffic, just about anything else lower and a dodge caravan full of kids will sail right past you while youre in the middle of the powerband trying to stay afloat. It is still a pretty good combo to get the car on the road, I would save up and get a nice th700 or 2004r down the road though, people these days in their new cars around my neighbor hood do an avg of 80-5 mph and thats at least where Im at. Good thing about a z with v8 is that with the lightweight a weaker trans will take a bit more rwhp. I like the older trannies, they feel race ready from the get go. I would tend to think I would be doing pretty good if the setup sold for $1000, so I'm not sure I would call that deal "cheap". I would say "decent". BTW, my setup might be listed for sale soon. It is an 88 350, low miles, performer intake, HEI, and newly rebuilt TH400 with shift kit. Might sell separately though because the TH400 is more popular for big-block/big-car applications. Mikelly
I'd take speedracer's recommendation unless you are 100% sure you know the story on that motor. If not, I'd plan to go in and rering it and rebearing it... Then you are talking about more expense AND you would still have issues with the tranny/ gear ratio...
