Guest Anonymous
At the junkyard the other day, I noticed a late-70s Datsun sedan with what sure looked like the same L6 engine used in the Zs. Did Nissan make a non-sporty car built around the same running gear as the Z and, if so, will the Chevy SB swap kits work on them? I'm intrigued by the idea of a super-stealthy sleeper car... SleeperZ
Datsun 810 and early Maxima
Guest Anonymous
You saw the fairly rare Datsun 810 (pre Maxima) with the 2400 cc L6 engine which were left over when the Z went 260 and 280.I would assume that the SBC would go in per JTR specs. Guest Anonymous
Hmmmmm.... very interesting. An SBC 810 might be fun/different, though a bit heavier than a Z. Anyone ever heard of one being built and, if so, any horror stories?
Phantom
Actually an sbc version of the older and more easily race prepped 510 sedan would be a real blast. It was quite the little war horse in the '70's.
Kevin Shasteen
You'ld have to measure the engine bay. Remember, the Z back in the 70's when it was first introduced to the U.S. was also offered back in their home country w/a DOHC version but with less cc's-thus the wider engine bay. The japanese who were lucky enough to obtain a Z w/the DOHC also got a tax break for buying a more environment friendly engine...this was their incentive for purchasing an engine w/less cubes. The car you are looking at may not have been offered w/a DOHC back in Japan, thus it may not have as wide of an engine bay as the Z; just something to think about. Kevin. Guest Anonymous
Kevin is probably right since the 810 was not that apparent from 710 and 610's of the same era which were fairly narrow cars. Measure!
