Mikelly
...Drive them" theory! We were snowed in yesterday, so I took the opportunity to install new suspension and a new Borla Exhaust on the Vette. The Z06 Sway bars were easy to put on, but the old shock top bolts were frozen in place and had to be soaked with penetration oil... But all is done there... Now we are getting ready to install the russell brake lines and speed bleeders, then install a Z06 clutch master cylinder and slave unit... I'm ordering a 6.0 crank for the motor build this week, and my engine builder will pick it up when it arrives so he can take measurements... I hope to have a motor for the Vette in my shop within the month of March if possible! Yea, those rich corvette guys... ANYBODY can just buy a fast car... NOBODY ever mods them ! Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I know I have said anyone with money can buy a fast car... I have always wondered what a Chevy V-8 sounds like with Borla exhaust, can you make a sound clip?
Mikelly
I think my Digital camera does about 15 seconds of video/ Sound... I'll have to play with it... It doesn't sound all that loud. I think my wife's Mustang GT with Flowmasters sounds louder... Which is OK with me! I wanted it to free up HP and have a little more growl, and the Borla is full Stainless, with stainless hardware... Nice LARGE tips (I went with two tips vs. the four stock configuration!) This exhaust and the cold air kit I installed are supposed to be worth 40HP on the chassis dyno... We'll see... The one GOOD thing about the vette guys is they have a LOT of disposable income and a lot of them dyno their cars with each mod they do... So you pretty much KNOW what works before you commit to buying something. Mike
Mikelly
Well tonight the kid and I dug the snow out of infront of the driveway... We really wanted to test out the Z06 suspension mods, the new brake mods, and check the Borla XR1 Exhaust in the Vette... WOW... LOUD... WOW... STIFFER, flatter tracking... WOW, NO TRACTION! Lots of chem-stuff out on the roads... I couldn't BUY traction... It was interesting with the traction control off. It was even more interesting when I romped on it with traction control ON! The TCS was overridden a couple of times! On the plus side, It is gonna be fun at the autocrosses and at the track! I can't wait! Guest ON3GO
hey Mike can i ask what vette site you visit and post on? my dad and i are thinking of doing a few things to his Z06. either that or sell it when the new Z06 comes out. btw.. i got to drive a Z06 with a ATI procharger running 7psi (i think), exhaust, intake work, head work and a few other things. WOW.. nasty car. he is a student at my school and in my class. i knew what it had and etc and i knew what kind of numbers he is prob putting down, but i just started joken around with him telling him its a shame im gonna smoke him in my old datsun. so he let my drive it.. HELL NO! i wont even come close, and if im half as fast ill be happy. 1st, 2nd.. yeah there useless. and he has 335's on the back. sad thing is.. he is selling it. good thing is.. he is buying a new viper hardtop when it comes out. better thing is.. he is gonna build it to about 1000rwhp with a turbo kit. WORSE part is.. he is only 26 and has the money to do this on his own. .. i guess me talking about my kinda fixed up 29 year old datsun at school isnt cool at all. mike
Mikelly
Dude, your car project is cool... To you... That should be all that matters... He won't be able to put 1000HP to the ground, and all that amounts to is "My wallet is fatter than yours" Syndrome! My Z parts were sold... Leaving me with just a shell, and enough money to do a twin turbo install into my Vette... My new BAD toy... That would have STILL been slower than my V8 Z... I kept it for a reason! Plus, when your Z is done, and you roll up into a parking lot, you are pretty much guaranteed no one else is gonna roll up in one just like it. Can't say that about my Vette, and my guess is you can't say that for sure about a viper... No one sees under the hood when you are rolling down the street... I'm over on http://www.corvetteforums.com,'>http://www.corvetteforums.com, as well as http://www.ls1.com. I'm new over at both sites, and I'll warn you, http://www.corvetteforums.com isn't as technical as I had hoped... Most guys are NOT turning wrenches on their own cars... lot of them are handing them over to custom tuners to build and isntall... I've still got to figure out what we're gonna build with out LS1 Block and heads... still researching. The Z06 bolt ons were nice, but the car sits higher and I'm not sure if it was from sitting on the lift with the suspension relaxed for three days, or the changes we made... Good thing is lowering the Vette costs Nothing other than an alignment... So if it doesn't settle down in a week, I'll be dropping it manually! Guest ON3GO
yeah i know about the lowering, but if its lowered the vette wouldnt be able to get up our driveway.. BUT the Z06 sits a tad higher then the reg coupes and verts.. i think atleast. my dads sits kinda high for me but thats ok. i guess ill get on corvetteforums and LS1.com and see whats up. and btw lucky bastard.. building a badass Z and a super badass corvette. lol... also show up those C5 owners how to REALLY build a car mike
Guest the_dj
I was sitting next to a guy in a top-down vert vette and I asked him what mods he had. He said he drove a vette...he didn't need mods. Him soon after:

silicone boy
Mike, Does your wife realize what you spend on your cars? Mine only agreed to get me an RX7 for XMAS if I agreed to make no modifications and drive it as is (it did come with adjustable shocks, better intake, and a fart pipe exhaust though). I agreed that I would make no modifications to the motor or suspension. Is a hidden manual boost controller part of the engine? Putting one in would violate the spirit of the agreement, if not the letter of the agreement.
Mikelly
My wife is aware... And after having been married 17 years to a man who cheated on her from day one, Her requirement for marriage #2 (That would be to me! ) was that whoever she married NOT play with other women... She has been VERY understanding of my hobbies, and as long as I keep throwing $1200 per month into my 401K and keep a roof over our heads, and keep us in nice vacations, then she is happy... She certainly does without nothing! She likes it when I'm in the garage! She knows that I'm not out somewhere scoping and chatting up some 21 year old hottie... silicone boy
I've always said that a man can have one of 3 vices. Sports, cars, and women. If you have just one of the 3, you can still be functional (although the latter can get even more expensive than cars when you think about it). If you have 2 of the 3, say cars and women, then you're a goner .
Drax240z
Uh oh... what happens if you have all 3?
Kevin Shasteen
.., Mine only agreed to get me an RX7 for XMAS if I agreed to make no modifications and drive it as is.., I agreed that I would make no modifications to the motor or suspension.., Does that mean..."No mod's to the [FACTORY] motor & suspension" or just no mods at all? If your answer is "no mods at all" then perhaps you should buy the RX7 w/the LS1 already in it....the devil is in the details is it not For an LS1 powered 2nd/3rd RX7's and videos, go to: http://www.hinsonsupercars.com 1) click on Project H7 at the left of the screen, 2) then click on Video Page at the lower right bottom of screen 3) then click on "Compilation Video"...I think this is a good video/sound clip of a LS1 powered 3rd Gen RX7 For info on the LS1 2nd gen Rx7's, which are dirt cheap w/a little mileage on them or bad engines...go to http://www.wrongmotor.com Sorry Mike-wasnt trying to hi-jack your thread. Mikelly
Lowered the Vette over the weekend... Cost nothing but an alignment. And it only took about an hour to complete everything start to finish. Best part, it can be completely undone if you don't like it... I like it, allthough I need to check the rake front to rear... The rear mod drops the car over two and 3/8 inches, which really equates to 1 7/8th drop. The sway bar dog bones are 1/2 inch longer... So that stacks the suspension a bit more... Up front the mods drop the front 1 1/4 inch. I may end up raising the rear back up 1/2 inch or so... Mike
