Mikelly
Well I'm skeptical at best... and the comment about not relying on magazine tests from Road and Track or Car and Driver is just way out in left field. Ussually those reports use professional drivers at legal tracks with access to timing devices... Do they sometimes report slower than advertised times? Sure. They ussually comment about the reasons why... Hard to beat their resources for data collection. And as I'm finding out with my Gtech pro, If you DON'T get the data input correct on your vehicle weight (And most DON'T According to responses back and forth with Tesla) then you will get some VERY unrealistic numbers. The only GOOD thing I can say about the MR2 is that it has some very LOW gearing, so offline acceleration will be decent from 0-60... But not in the 5 second range and not stock... Do the math and figure it out as Basstad stated... Doesn't add up... I'll be interested in what your friend runs... Also, As demonstrated mulitple times in SSC, and on the MR2 websites I've trolled, these cars are VERY susceptible to parts breakage... Especially in the transaxle... Launch with care, and driver beware! Mike
Moridin
Most of the magazines I've read are pretty acurate with their times. At least the specialty ones. Like Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. They were recording 12.5 second 1/4s with a stock Cobra compared to the 13.4 to 13.8 times that Car and Driver, Motor trend, and others were recording. I'm sure there has to be another tuner magazine with some times in it for the MR2. I want to see some video Take some of your friend at the track so we can see
stjoetalon
Mr2s are mid 14 to low 15 second cars stock. But as with almost all factory turbo cars, they dont take crap to make them fly. A few bolt ons and they are SOLID 13 second cars. I was looking for a nice one for 2 years. But everyone who had a nice one knew it and wanted WAY too much for it. FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN cars to drive! Guest bastaad525
well, you also said that your friend was pulling mid 14's all day long in his bone stock MR2. mid 14's in the quarter usually means low 6's in 0-60. Another example from experience, my same 240 that I have now but with the N/A motor, ran a 14.8 twice in the 1/4 (rest were in the 15's), and friend radar timed me like 15 passes 0-60 one night when we had too much time on our hands, best was a 6.5, once, average was 6.7 seconds. Cars that run sub 6's 0-60 are usually around 14 flat or into the 13's.

They ussually comment about the reasons why... yeah they do more often than not mention reasons for if the cars run slower than expected. I also remember reading a magazine article on the Mustang SVT Cobra where it ran a 13 something... I dont know if thats the same article ON3GO keeps mentioning, but I also remember the article I read mentioned SEVERAL times that they KNEW this time was way slower than what it should be able to run, that the car was severely limited by traction. I remember some line like "drop the clutch at anything above idle and the tires just spin and spin. A better rear end or some sticky tires would go a long way towards better times". I also know more than a few guys who have bought brand new cars (most recent was a friend who picked up a new SRT-4) and take them to the track right away (or to the dyno) and come back with numbers VERY close to what the magazines give. For magazines to be way off is usually the exception, not the rule.
