olie05
What is the highest RPM's an L-series engine can take before things start breaking... and also, what will break first?

Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
There are a number of factors in this, but auxilary gives a good estimate. Different years and different engines will have different characteristics, and then the question is also based on how long you are sustaining the RPM as well. If you are just pegging it between shifts, you can go higher than you can hold it for a mile. I think I've hit about 7250 between shifts, but I sure wouldnt hold it that high for very long. I'll save my high-rpms for my next engine
Clifton
With valve springs the only thing I have problems with are pulleys. 7000-7500rpm. Sometimes it's not worth up shifting on a road coarse so I spin it higher than I need to.
