Garrett76Zt
Alright I am trying to swap pads on my stock front 280z calpers. Is it possible that the piston can seize in the extended position? One of the pads was worn all the way to the backing plate and grinding like crazy. So I pulled it apart and cannot for the life of me compress the piston so I can install the new pad and fit it around the rotor! I've Used a C-clamp and it won't budge. Help! I'm trying o get this piece to reynold in 2 days! Garrett
JMortensen
If you can find a rebuild kit then you can pull it apart clean up any burrs, replace the seals and reassemble. The easiest way I've found to remove a stuck piston is take the caliper off, hold the piston that moves with a c clamp, then put compressed air to the nipple on the caliper. Use a regular old air spray tip with a rubber end and just hold it against the nipple and let er rip. When the piston comes out it will splatter brake fluid, so don't do this right next to your car (and make sure you don't have a finger in there when it goes). Make sure the piston and the caliper don't have any burrs in it before you reassemble. A stuck piston will probably make it pull to one side under braking and will wear the pads unevenly and is just not safe, so you should really fix it ASAP. CruxGNZ
Garrett called me and he's heading up to my place to pick up an extra set of working calipers that I had. So hopefully, no more problems 8) . !M!
iaconsultants
Did you happen to loosen the bleed screw when you tried pushing on the piston. The caliper itself does not have anything that can cause it to really bind that way unless something was distorted or a foreign object went in. I am assuming you checked the bleed screw, but just in case. We all miss something once in a while because we are to close to it.
