Nismo280zEd
ok so i'm going to do this myself since a full rebuild kist only cost 119 from a source i found. Any tips i should be aware of ? I have the repair manual and everything looks pretty straight forward.
260DET
Fairly straight forward. You may need to get some parts pressed off, one of the needle roller inner sleeves was very tight on mine. Helps if you lay everything out in order of dissembly and watch out for syncro springs popping out and getting lost. When assembling make sure that all internal threaded fasteners are very tight, consider Loctite. Have fun.
Doug71zt
Ed - If you are putting it into 5th and it's like there is no gear there - the tailshaft nut has likely backed off and spun down the threads on the shaft. This allows the driven 5th gear to slide down the shaft out of position. The rest of the tranny will likely still operate normally. If this is the case, The tail shaft is likely shot as the nut and gears, etc bang away at the threads on the shaft and wreck them, rendering the tailshaft useless. If you are having symptoms like this, take the tail housing off, check out the 5th gear situation and go from there. If the tailshaft is scrap, you are best off finding another 5spd, as the cost will be less. It seems to be a common problem on the early 5spds. Hope this helps Doug
