Guest paul-zed
Why cant I just bolt on a Vortech type supercharger onto my fuel injected engine to give increased bhp? I know its not that simple, but surely possible, so what other mods would be needed???? Anyone had any experience of doing this? wigenOut-S30
If you would have looked about 11 or so posts down you would have seen the pics of a roots style done. Let me get the link for you.... Sounds like you have much research to do.. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=32666
Guest paul-zed
Yes I had already seen those pics, looks an amazing setup, but a vortech is far more compact hopefully easier installation and without the need for an after cooler. What would be the best upgrade for the injection system? Here in the UK there is not the same ammount of info or companies that can help with the Z ! Most of my stuff I am getting from the states, Jim Cook is supposed to be developing a new supercharger with injection/ throttle bodies but it seems to be taking forever, and our short summer is coming so I want to get out there and drive!!!! Guest bastaad525
Question is (and you know SOMEONE was gonna ask this), why? Though I've seen some really cool looking ones, I've never understood the desire to spend the kind of money and time it takes to custom make a supercharger system for an L6 when you can just find the factory turbo parts you need or even a whole turbo motor and the whole EFI system with it for cheaper and install it easier. The stock T3, if you run a good, 3" mandrel exhaust, is just about lag free, and torque hits hard at 2300-2500rpm. You're upgrade options are more plentiful with the turbo, and your power is limited only by how much money you want to spend. With a supercharger you can only turn that boost up so much, and it's usually not much, compared to 15-20psi you see guys running on turbo motors. I hate to be a nay-sayer, but really just being a realist... bottom line is you can do the turbo cheaper, easier, have more options available, and can end up with much more power, while still retaining great driveability and reliability, and I just dont see a supercharger setup having any advantages over the turbo except the 'instant on' which really, again isn't much of an advantage to the T3 or T3/04's near instant spool. I dont know about anything new they are working on, but I am 90% sure that the L6 supercharger setup that Jim Cook Racing used to sell is no longer in production, and the few people I've talked to who used it were not that impressed by it, as in "it made okay power but it had problems and problems and problems". SleeperZ
And the "no-lag" feature of a supercharger ONLY applies to roots-type chargers that boost off idle. The Vortech and other centrifugal chargers make full boost only at redline, and substantially LESS boost at rpm points where the turbo is at full boost. Guest paul-zed
Good points guys! I suppose I may have got carried away with being first guy in uk to have a blown Z. I know what you say makes sense, but every Tom,Dick and Harry has a turbo, 8)
HS30-H
I suppose I may have got carried away with being first guy in uk to have a blown Z. You would not have been the first anyway. There have been at least two first-generation Z's with supercharger setups in the UK to my knowledge, and maybe more. I don't think either of them are still being used. That might tell you something.........
