Guest KSGerry
Does anyone have information or photos about the 280 hp 3.9 liter dohc all-aluminum V-8 engine that Ford is using in the Lincoln LS and the Thunderbird? My representative at Ford's "surplus" warehouse informed me that he had 20 new, in-crate 3.9 engines available. I'm trying to get information or photos to see if they are desireable to buy and if they could be used in other applications (like a Z!) besides a Lincoln or T-Bird. Thanks!! Jumbo240ez
I don't know much about these engines, but if it's overhead cam it's probably too wide for a z without relocating the suspension et al... If the search is working you'll find lots on the subject of mod motors.

Gerry Dedonis [email']dedonis@kans.com[/email] Kansas Racing Products Inc. http://www.kansasracingproducts.com I did locate a very informative website regarding the 3.9 engine. It is one for Lincoln LS enthusiasts, http://www.llsoc.com . You will have to request a free 30-day membership to view the different articles. One article is a "Project LS-GT" build showing a disassembled 3.9 and it's performance features. It's a Cosworth block rated at 252 hp in the 2000-2002 models and 275 hp in the 2003 models with variable-valve timing. Cracked pistons, 10.5:1 compression ratio, 4-valves per cylinder with an iron cylinder sleeve. McLaren has a boosted option too! There are two transmissions, a six-speed manual and and automatic with a stick-override feature.
blueovalz
This block, like the 4.6L is very wide and heavier than one would expect. I believe the engine will fit between the towers, but a fabricated exhaust is probably a must, especially on the drivers side (steering shaft). Mudge
It really looks like any V engine with DOHC would be a beach to fit.
TomoHawk
Have you seen the shifter on the LS? I hear it's got an H-gate to it. thx
ZROSSA
This is the same engine they use in the 4.0 lt jag right? Anyway, I have just come back from San diego visiting family and they have a brand new t-bird. Had to have a look and a drive. The engine is bigger then the sbc in my z and really fills up the engine bay in the t-bird. I really was disapointed with it, the car must weigh a lot. Didnt feel much faster then the suv i had rented. Douglas
