Guest dvlax28
When trying to tap some helicoil out of the bolt holes for the intake manifold my n47 head because the previous owner had apparently stripped the threads or something, the tap broke in the hole and my dad and I are perplexed because this puts a major delay on our project that was going to be done in a few weeks. do i try to get a new head and machine it (money) or do i take it to a machine shop and drill it out? any suggestions? my neighbor's tap was old and must have been weak, so now we are at a loss...or should i look for a junkyard head? help jason dvlax28@yahoo.com aim: dvlax28
JMortensen
There is a process that machine shops can use where they can remove steel from an aluminum head without damaging the aluminum. Not sure how it works, might be an acid that doesn't eat aluminum??? I'd look for another head personally, maybe one with square exhaust ports (you'd need a square port manifold or header to go with it). evildky
this might or might not work for you but something I have done in the past get a nut larger in diameter than the broken tap, hold the nut with the ground clamp of your welder and start welding the inside of the nut to the end of the broken tap, I know this is difficult and it helps if you can find a fairly this nut but if you get the bugger welded on you can just bask it out with a socket, this of course assuming you have or at least access to a welder but then again if you can dig up an N42 head you'd be better off anyhow, it's the same head but without the sleaving so it flows better and it's tapped for carbs of fuel injection setups, ever has the provision for a mechanicle fuel pump
