I have an Edelbrock performer, and a Weiand stealth for my 406.I have run the Edelbrock, and I did'nt feel any big change from the stock one.I have run the Weiand on a different engine, but have no comparison.Has anyone ran these on the the same engine, or have an educated opinion on what best suits my needs?Basically stock 406,Comp 265 cam/springs/threaded rocker studs/Hooker street rod headers/2 1/4 exhaust,600 holley, and a 700r.thanks. cheers.gif

Small gains can be had with the Performer over stock above 4500 rpm or so up to around 5500. (I would guess you take your 406 to 4800-5200 or so with that cam?)The stealth will realize larger gains but only above the Performers 5500 rpm max rpm. This is just a generalization, but if you really want more power, you need more cam. I would limit yourself to 5500 rpm if you have the stock rod bolts of the 400, however. The Comp 270 would be good, but dollar per dollar the Crane Energizers seem a better deal. Go with the 278 as I don't care for the 112 lobe separation on the 284. (I ran one for a long time and it never made the power it should have. I had a buddy who had one as well and switched to the 278 with good results.)If you decide on the Stealth, IMO you will need the cam and a carburetor upgrade as well, so it may be best to keep the status quo depending on your budget. The extra displacement of the 406 should still be fine with the 278 cam and the stock converter, especially if it is an F body trans as they have a little more stall than the B body or truck converters.

yes I have many times, the performer intake does not come close to the Weiand stealth as far as potential hp,especially above 4500rpm, the performer rpm does and it varies with your combo as to which of the two will work better but in most cases the diferance in hp is small.

on average Ive found the newer edelbrock air gap to be slightly better than the older stealth design but the differance is much smaller than edelbrock would have you believe it is, still if I was paying the same price Id get the newer edelbrock air gap design, but if I had a stealth already I would not spend the money to swap

Thanks for the info,I had a feeling the Weiand would pull harder higher up.Its on a stock 350 right now with a 600 Holley, and winds up pretty good. The 406 was originaly built for a 4x4 truck, and has never seen over 4500rpm.With the difference in weight and gearing, that might be a little harder to hold.I cant remember if I changed the rod bolts or not, (famous last words)so maybe a rev limiter is next. 2thumbs.gif

I am Going to Be Running in the 485-500 HP range and was wanting to know what kind of intake I should run? I have a Tunnel Ram With two 600 hundreds on it, you think that would work good?

I don’t really want anything sticking out of my hood though so what do you think?

youll have a hard time flowing enough air in a dual plane SBC intake to support 500hp, the edelbrock super victor intake is a far better choice and while it might cause hood clearance problems on some hoods its far lower than a tunnel ram intake

Super Victor (3500-8000 rpm)

These powerful new manifolds utilize modern induction design techniques for incredible race-winning power. The all-new Super Victors deliver maximum torque and horsepower up to 8000+ rpm. The extended, constant cross sectional area of the runners produce more torque across the mid-range for great short track power, throttle response out of the corners and improved 60-foot times in drag racing. A direct "line of sight" flow path provides max flow for outstanding performance.

I am going to buy the Super Victor intake and I was wanting to know what heads I should run? and with all this power what well I have to do with the rear end to hold? I have a R200 LSD.

Thanks for your info.
