has anyone ever hear of Edelbrock c-tech heads? I know I probably spelled every piece of that wrong but oh well. I was talking to a local speed shop and they said instead of getting the GM vortec heads I should go with the c-tec(h)?(s) so I would not have the use the stock vortec intake and I could instead use something like the performer rpm?

Can anyone shed some light on this

Billy

If this is for your ZX Billy, The Performer RPM intake is going to be too tall to fit under a stock hood. If you go with some kind of hood scoop, then anything is fair game.

wow grumpy, that is alot of info.

Greimann, you said I should go with the Performer intake, is the performer rpm abit taller? If so then I will go with just the performer.

Is it pretty much ok to just stick with the Vortec heads (or am I going to find something much better for the money)

I plan on using the performer intake like Greimann suggested (he also helped me pick out the rest of this stuff that I'm going to list)

here is the other stuff:

Crane Powermax #114142 camshaft, 216, 228 @.050 - 112 LSA

Edelbrock Performer manifold

Holley 650

Now I'm stuck with picking heads, I should be able to buy most of the stuff I still need right after christmas, so I'm trying to really get the parts I want.

this car will be a street driven, daily driver. Used for my own fun. Really though, I'm looking for approx 350hp and 400 torque. maybe a mid to low 13 second car.

Will this get me there, any other advise or tips. anything

Billy

I ran a Edelbrock rpm airgap on top of a sbc 350 with a 750 edelbrock and 2 3/4" drop base type air cleaner and cleared hood on my 71 240 by 1/4". By the way I now run a Weiand stealth and that sits a little lower allowing me to run the Holley double pumper!

ZX hood clearance is at a premium. With the Performer intake, Holley smog legal version of the 4150, and a 3" drop base air cleaner, it barely fits under the hood. Now that I am runnig the 4Di TBI system, the clearance is better because the throttle body is nice and low. The Performer RPM is at least a 1" taller and you can't afford to loose that much clearance.

I think he is referring to the E-tech heads. They are available in 170 and 200cc intake runner sizes. They DO use the same intake as the Vortec, however. If you are going to buy aftermarket aluminum heads, I would do something more traditional than the E tecs. Otherwise, just run the Vortecs, IMO. Edelbrock claims the 170's outflow the Vortecs on the exhaust by 20% and that the 200s outflow the GM fast burn heads overall by 10%. I would buy the Performer RPM for a mild 350" motor or the Victor Jr heads if you turn 7000 rpm or are 380+ ci, that is if you stay Edelbrock. Plenty of other good heads out there as well. My buddies 427 small block dynoed 540 hp 560 lb ft with box stock Victor Jr.s, Edelbrock claims 550 hp support out of the box, and it's darn close.

You may have been refered to the Vortec replacement Street High Performance Edelbrock E-Tec Heads which there are two with 64cc combustion chambers: E-tec 170 (1.94 intake and 1.55 exhaust and E-Tec 200 (2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust). Edelbrock claims these E-Tec heads equipped with an "800 CFM carburator" will out perform the cast iron Vortec heads and fast burn aluminum heads. E-Tec 170 =12 hp more than Vortec cast iron and E-tec 200 19 HP more than Vortec aluminum. The E-Tec 170 MAYBE street legal and the E-Tec is probaly not enviromentally safe. The e-tecs are supposed to work with about any SBC valve cover and manifolds.IMHO just about comparable to the Vortec heads they were designed to replace and probably not equal to Vortec heads that are tweeked. The comparison with "800 CFM Edelbrock carburator" tends to dispell any notions of granduer on the Horse Power claims over "stock" Vortec!. re edit Mike C was not trying to second guess you ..you just type faster.
